Thomas was the deep threat at LSU. I'm interested in what he's going to run at the combine. I bet high 4.3 low 4.4. The guy you want is Legette if you want a true burner.
I would sign Brown.I don't think Howard will be ready and if he is he won't be the same player he was. That's a serious injury.
I do in DeMeco’s scheme. Thinking he’s going skyrocket up the boards though. Daniel Jeremiah has him as his #1 DT going to the Vikings at #11 in his latest mock.
Yes, I have mentioned a few times. Legette is my #1 choice. Troy Franklin and Brian Thomas are my backup choices. If Thomas runs a high 4.3 then I could be convinced to change as I think he might be a bit more polished than Legette, but Legette is a freak athlete that fits the WR need we have.
I'm on the fence about which one to choose. I would probably go with the safer choice Thomas. I'm worried about Legette giving me Cordarrle Patterson vibes. But if Legette is there and Thomas is gone I would take the chance.
If you're after pure speed, Franklin is the up and up burner with smoothness. Legette my concerns are - 5th year senior, no production until this year, limited route tree but great size. Seems like a real boom or bust type. I'd would rather a Thomas, if it's a WR in the first. Wouldn't mind either of the two above if we're picking in the second.
I hope I'm wrong too. But from what I've heard Howard ruptured a ligament and that's a very serious injury.
Legette does seem to be getting a 2nd round grade lately so there’s that. And your concerns on him are valid, I don’t know why it’s taken him so many years to break out. But I feel like CJ is going to make his WRs better. He makes Dell’s route running even more effective, he makes Nicos yac production insane, Legette isn’t that refined of a route runner, but he’s top tier in contested catches. Line him up in the red zone. And then deep balls where cj is lights out on ball location.. boom.
23. Houston Texans (via CLE) Jer'Zhan Newton, DT, Illinois The Texans overachieved and won a playoff game on the back of a stellar rookie class, but they have work to do this offseason. They have cap space to make moves but also have several free agents, including top edge rusher Jonathan Greenard (12.5), tight end Dalton Schultz (59 catches) and defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (6 sacks). While I can see Houston pursuing multiple positions with this pick, Newton would both fill a void and be a high-upside selection. Newton is the best interior pass-rusher in this class; he had 16.5 sacks in three seasons for the Fighting Illini. He improved his pressure rate in every season, showing off an impressive combination of strength and natural talent. He also has versatility, as three of his sacks were from when he lined up as the nose tackle. He could slot into Rankins' spot in the lineup.
