Also, the Titans will be selecting OL unless god wants to clown on them once again. Not a TE. Their line is a complete disaster.
22. Arizona Cardinals (via Houston) – CB Terrion Arnold, Alabama 26. Houston Texans (via Cleveland) – DT Byron Murphy II, Texas
Totally agree but I wonder if the freshness of Bryce's crash and burn will hurt the trade value of the #1 pick this year. It's popular to bash Caleb Williams but I still believe he's a generational talent. The entire USC team collapsed this year and it wasn't his fault. I'm an Oregon fan and watching the Ducks completely eat USC's o-line and batter him around almost made me feel sorry for him. Nevertheless, his effort was heroic even though his overmatched team had almost no chance to win. Caleb's idiot father and other handlers may have tarnished his rep but the guy's talent and competitiveness are crazy. If the Bears keep and pay a mediocre at best player like Justin Fields, they deserve their fate.
IMO, JJ McCarthy is definitely not a 1st round QB. In fact, I'm not convinced any QBs besides Caleb Williams and Drake Maye are 1st rounders.
I’m personally not the biggest Caleb fan but agree he’s on a different talent level than Bryce. Plus think most can clearly see Bryce was thrown into a complete dumpster fire of a situation.
21. Arizona Cardinals (via Houston): Bralen Trice, DE, Washington The Cardinals have arguably the least talent on the defensive line in the entire NFL, Expect Jonathan Gannon to fill the front seven with players who fit his scheme, which he couldn't do last offseason. 27. Houston (via Cleveland): Chop Robinson, Edge, Penn State The offensive line is a major need given all the injuries this past season, but does DeMeco Ryans think he can rebuild his magical defensive front from San Francisco?
JJ McCarthy is going to be an avg QB at best. Dude has nice tools, but doesn't get asked to do anything at Michigan. Penix is a statue therefore needs to go somewhere with a great O Line.
I did see him. Negatives for me are footwork (drop backs will be an issue for him in the NFL) and pocket presence, at his age he should be significantly more advanced with both. Going through progressions, once the main one is gone, he has struggled this past year. Plus Oregon ran lots of screens, underneath type stuff for him. For the positives - big, athletic guy with a strong arm. There’s potential but you definitely want to see significantly more at that age by now, if you’re spending a second or third on him. Would have loved to have seen more in the Washington game - not a victory but the concerns above addressed.
Nix had an incredible season but he just doesn't look like a 1st round QB to me. He threw lots of screens and simple reads downfield and benefited from a stellar receiving corp. Oregon's offense was nothing like an NFL offense. Granted, his accuracy (including downfield) was great. Irving's speed and ability in the passing game should translate well to the NFL. IMO, he probably gets taken late in the 2nd round or maybe slips to the 3rd.
The team that drafts Bo Nix in the 1st Round will get his GM fired. Seriously. He has the worst tape of any of the top-6 QB's imo. And he's already 24, on top of the fact that outside of Herbert, Oregon QB's never pan out. He's a 3rd Round talent imo, but because the NFL always overdrafts QB's out of necessity, he likely goes late 1st or early 2nd Round.
Want a dominant DL? Draft Robinson and sign Chris Jones as a FA. Not what I would do, but there's a case to be made for getting these guys. I didn't see an issue with him getting to his second read. Although he didn't have to go to his second read very often.
