He should care. We've had enough injured players this year. Why draft someone who probably won't be at the level he was before the ACL tear, and probably won't even play next season? Granted, some running backs have come back from ACL tears like Adrian Peterson, but if we want a second RB to compliment Singletary next year we won't get one off an ACL tear. It typically takes 2 years for them to get back to the level before surgery, if they do at all. RBs had the largest decline in production each season over a 3-year period following ACLR compared to QBs and WRs, respectively. Running backs rely heavily on their speed, agility, and cutting abilities. When a running back sustains an ACL injury, it often leads to a long and rigorous rehabilitation process, which can keep them off the field for a significant amount of time.
AD Mitchell is my plan B to Brian Thomas in round 1. Guy would provide a another deep threat to Stroud and would be insurance against Nico being too expensive in a year. My problem with Legette is that he is a 5th year senior who did nothing through his first 4 years at SC. Why is that when he is such a sick athlete?
That and rapid starts and stops for cuts. He fits the bill if the performance matches the potential. In my mind, he's a Demeco type with younger and fresher legs.
I'm hoping it's about the scheme and QB. We know Stroud can get more out of some of his receivers than other QBs.
Brooks is projected to be ready for training camp so I’d be surprised he missed the entire season. But ACL injuries just aren’t the same as they used to be. Saquon, Dalvin Cook, and Breece Hall are all recent RBs that played the following season and got back to a really high level of play but you’re right in that it wasn’t until year 2. Not saying you draft Brooks in the 1st round (as he was projected pre-injury) but I’d easily take 3rd or 4th round flyer on him.
With CJ's love to push the field...Worthy or Legette would be great. Legette does have much better measurables, so he should be higher in draft boards than Worthy. Maybe Worthy drops to #50 because of his measurements?
I guess we look at it differently. I'd rather snag a defensive player, lineman, tackle, WR or running back who would be 100% healthy to start the season. Yeah, he might be ready to play, but he also might be far less productive than a healthy RB even if he does say he feels good. It's a big risk for a guy we need to do better than Pierce if Singletary gets hurt next year. There are only a handful of guys who actually played as good as before by year 2 after that type injury, and I hate risking it on a position we have only one good player at in the 3rd or 4th round. We have big needs.
Ya that would be my concern as well. However it may allow Tank to play more slot which I think he’d kill at.
I'm not a scout or anything, but the short synopsis of: Will Shipley RB Clemson Height: 5 - 11 | Weight: 198 | RAS: N/A Shipley is truly a chisel inside the tackles, using his instincts and agility to carve out consistent gains. Meanwhile, he doubles as an elite receiving threat and a quality blocker as well. He’s a versatile pass catcher who can run routes from multiple alignments, catch the ball away from his frame, and accrue RAC yards. As a blocker, he’s combative, has a natural feel for leverage, and uses his short-area twitch to reposition himself. -Ian Cummings He sounds like a versatile RB backup in a similar role as Jordan TE played for us last Sunday when Beck was out. I'm so used to having to choose between run, block, catch and YAC I don't know how we use him. But I'd like to find out. Another: Donovan Edwards - RB Michigan Height: 5 - 11 | Weight: 190 | RAS: N/A Edwards is a perfect fit for the modern NFL with his brand of versatility. As a runner, he assuredly has enough creative instincts and reaction quickness to recognize lanes and capitalize, and he has the instant explosiveness to get upfield with efficiency. He can also offset defenders and adjust attack angles at the second level with his lateral twitch and ability to constrict while keeping speed. -Ian Cummings
His numbers fell off from last year. Not sure why but he seems like a late round pick I’d consider if we don’t get Jonathon Brooks.
Think they would be better than Pierce? I just want someone better, healthy, and not coming off a big injury. That being said, I think we have bigger needs in the first 4 rounds than a RB.
Certainly someone would have to figure out why and determine if it's something they can fix. I'm actually just one round ahead of you thinking there will be a run in the fifth and I'd still prefer to get our choice before the run. As far as Pierce, I think all he has to do is look straight ahead when he runs instead of at his feet. Just watch his film and see if you don't see the same thing.
Mitchell is too much like Collins. I like guys with different skillsets at all 3 WR positions. But the case you made to draft Mitchell is a strong one. A lot of this has to do with the team he plays on and the depth chart. I mean Deebo was on the team when Legette 1st got there and I think they've had some pretty good WR's. ahead of him. Plus the QB play has been lacking until Rattler got there last year.
If Caserio cant get one of Benson/Allen/Irving, this is the guy I hope he drafts. Poor mans McCaffery
