No one is giving up on Stroud. But…..he doesn’t have near the upside of Williams or Maye and if he completely busts this year the Texans traded a ton to get Anderson when they could’ve gotten him at 2. There’s a lot of pressure on Stroud to perform
There's a lot of pressure on [fill-in the blank highly-drafted rookie QB] to perform. This isn't exclusive to Stroud. Are you suggesting, after tanking another season to be able to draft them, there wouldn't be intense (perhaps more?) pressure on Williams or Maye?
Not at all, but they made the choice to go after a lesser prospect when they didn’t need to. This team is still projected to be the 2nd worst team in the league. Trading away assets like they did when they didn’t need to may come back to bite them. Maybe it doesn’t and Stroud ends up a solid Cousins/Dak level QB. If Williams/Maye hit their potential and we miss on that, that’s a franchise killer
inorite? It's amazing to me how people fall for the hype cycle every single year without fail. Falling for it in JULY is bless your heart special.
I just looked at the 1st result on google and it had Spencer Rattler going #1 2 drafts ago, then he lost his job that season and transferred and is now coming back for a 5th year.
How is it a franchise killer? There is almost no chance the Texans would be picking in the top 5 in 2024, not with the moves they made...even without Stroud. Stroud is better than Maye...you don't see it because of your colored glasses. Williams is going #1. I'll make a bet with you. Texans finish with a top 3 worst-record, I'll leave the board for a year. If they don't, you leave for a year. Deal?
But, Ryan Leaf was considered a generational talent...just Like Maye and Williams. And not like Tom Brady? Or J.J. Watt? Or Jerry Rice?
