https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5807416/2024/10/02/nfl-all-rookie-team-2024-draft-jayden-daniels/ Runner-up: Kamari Lassiter, Houston Texans (Round 2, No. 42) Lassiter has allowed only seven receptions this season and had a terrific performance in Week 2 against the Bears, including his first NFL interception, off Williams. However, he looked like a rookie against the Jaguars this past Sunday, and Thomas got him a few times (including on a deadly double move that went incomplete but would have been a 30-yard touchdown had Trevor Lawrence thrown a better ball). Nonetheless, Lassiter has been one of the best rookie defensive backs in football.
I wish the Texans would have picked Thomas, traded a 2nd/2024 6th and a 2025 2nd to trade up and get Lassiter, then trade up using the Bullock trade. Could've ended up with Lassiter for the price of a very 2024 2nd/ (a 2024 very good player) and a 6th rd developmental prospect plus a very good player in the 2025 draft. With Thomas this is a SB contender. The guy is exactly what the Texans offense is missing. A star level player and Nico/Dell. (Good stuff.) Plus you get an outstanding CB in Lassiter. Probably the best rookie in the NFL Although I'm biased towards Mitchell) and you get a young rangy S this team badly missed last yr. This isn't MM QB'ing, I like looking back and seeing how the guy I really liked is doing. (Thomas is a star.) .
So happy that Lassiter has lived up to the hype we were hearing during training camp. It happens so often that guys get talked up but then can't quite perform on Sundays. But Locksmith has been everything we hoped he would be. It's so nice having the secondary be a strength of this team. There have been so few Texans teams where we could say that.
