He didn't mastermind anything, he just opted in to his player option because it was the most money he could get. Almost all players do that.....he didn't do anything out of the ordinary. Same reason he picked up his player option last time.
Decent role player in the second round. Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard has agreed to a three-year, $59 million contract extension that will take him through the 2027-28 season, Todd Ramasar and Jaafar Choufani of Life Sports Agency told ESPN on Wednesday morning. Nembhard — one of the breakout players of the 2024 Eastern Conference playoffs — agreed on the maximum allowable money available to him on a three-year deal. The Pacers will decline his $2.2 team option in 2025-26, allowing for the new deal to begin for him next year, sources said. Nembhard became eligible to sign the deal Monday. Source: ESPN
At Gonzaga, he was the living, breathing definition of a mediocre player (at least when I watched them). Now he's got $60 million. What a country we live in.
With the recent extensions, what that Cavs have really guaranteed is they will have a mediocre team for the next few years.
Tyus Jones signing for the minimum Saric signing for 5M Luke Kennard signing for 11M These are the best signings in free agency IMO. Kinda wish we held off on the Holiday signing we prob could have gotten Jones for 5M if he was willing to go the Suns for 3M.
Jones signed with Sun for the opportunity to start then take another crack at free agency next year for a more lucrative deal. He would not have gotten a chance to start in Houston.
He already had the opportunity to start on the Wizards right. If he didnt get paid after starting now makes even less sense he would get paid by PHX next season who are on the second apron. Almost doubling his salary I think he would have been ok to come off the bench. Jones hasnt had a large payday yet every million counts.
IIRC he wanted to start on a title contender.... raise his profile... secure the bag With the reality of this new landscape, Jones made the best choice for his career — and there’s still an avenue for him to cash out next summer. The closest he’s been to the NBA Finals is the second round of the 2022 playoffs with Memphis. Joining a star-studded lineup in the Valley, he’s hoping to change that. “The opportunity to win,” Jones said regarding his decision to join the Suns. “I’m a competitor and I want to win. I want to compete and a chance to lead. So, the role that was offered here, it’s hard to pass up. Just from the conversations with Josh (Bart), James (Jones), Mat (Ishbia), and Coach Bud. They did a great job of recruiting me, but ultimately, the role for myself — I felt the fit was perfect.” https://www.forbes.com/sites/shaney...why-he-chose-the-phoenix-suns-in-free-agency/
IMO, the Suns are not title contenders. They were taken out handily in the play-in first round last year. They technically didn't even make the playoffs.
Meh.... could be... I tend to agree with you re: Suns... but who else (title contender) had a job opening for him? ORL? MIA? MN? LAL? Only Minny stands out & it takes two to tango (i.e. maybe Twolves didn't want him)
