Rookie Paul Skenes of the Pirates is a All Star this year. His Velocity is on another level. Skubal of the Tigers is another Great Pitcher.

Houston Astros: Walker Janek, C, Sam Houston State I’ve primarily heard Houston with college bats the last few weeks, which could be Janek, Malcolm Moore, White, or Burke, while on the prep side I’ve heard them a bunch with Lewis and Johnson.
https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2024-mock-draft-1-0/ Fangraphs has Houston picking HS SS Tyson Lewis. Might be good if he signs for well under slot.

Houston Astros Tyson Lewis, SS, Millard West HS (Nebraska) Jordan has long been tied here, as has Honeycutt, if they last this long. Houston is also looking at a few collegiate shortstops (Kyle DeBarge, Griff O'Ferrall) and some prep ones (Caleb Bonemer, Wyatt Sanford), while pitchers seem less likely.
All mock drafts are a bit ridiculous, but I don't comprehend a baseball mock draft after the first 10 picks or so
When was the last time the first 8 picks were all collegiate players? Really feels like there has been a shift in drafting philosophy over the last fews years to prefer college players, especially with the bonus pool rules.
That would be a disaster. They need to do the exact opposite - draft high ceiling position players with their first 5 picks then some combination of high floor college pitchers and high ceiling position players the other 14 rounds. That's my mantra "high ceiling position players early, high floor pitching in the middle, and high ceiling again late."
These where my choices for 2023 potential Astros first rounder. First to go was Cam Smith. LHP, Cam Caminiti, Saguaro HS (AZ) 14th round, 3B, Cam Smith, Florida State RHP/OF, Carson Benge, Oklahoma State
Gillen off the board at 18. Last 3 picks have been HS guys taken higher than their expectations. All of the college C are still there as is Tyson Lewis. I’m still hoping for Dakota Jordan on a way under slot bonus.
2023 potential Astros first rounder. Next off the board is Carson Benge, leaving only my first choice Caminiti. I expected him to go first so maybe he will fall to us. LHP, Cam Caminiti, Saguaro HS (AZ) 14th round, 3B, Cam Smith, Florida State 19th round, RHP/OF, Carson Benge, Oklahoma State
I'm trying to figure out what happened to his brother Garrett Benge. Dude just retired after only a few years in the minors.
2023 potential Astros first rounder. Caminiti almost made it to us but he is gone at 24. At this point Walker Janek is my fallback position. 24th round, LHP, Cam Caminiti, Saguaro HS (AZ) 14th round, 3B, Cam Smith, Florida State 19th round, RHP/OF, Carson Benge, Oklahoma State
