The Small Business Administration is now out of money for disaster loans. Applications are still being taken while the SBA awaits further funding. Keep in mind this affects any new disasters too. Recovery processes in this country are hard enough and complex enough already. Now, thorough not passing a disaster aid bill, we are making things even more difficult. https://www.sba.gov/article/2024/10/15/sba-exhausts-funds-new-disaster-loans
Hey, good news, and we can narrowly avoid D&D gubmint talk: The new system has been downgraded -- looking like a gutter ball!
Interesting article about hurricane-resistant architecture: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20241010-these-domed-homes-in-florida-survived-hurricanes Thoughts, @rocketsjudoka?
I'll take a replica of the Astrodome as a home. That would be cool. The problem with the tan dome house featured in that article is it looks really short. I'm a tall ceilings person. Short ceilings feel suffocating.
Read the article and it makes sense to me that a rounded shape would better withstand winds. Also a dome is a very naturally strong shape. As the piece notes the problems are still flooding and wind and water pushed debris. Even if the structure can handle the winds unless its water tight but also hardened enough it still won’t survive a major hurricane with a large storm surge.
