Comparing distances between locations in Florida and similar locations in Texas.

The shortest distance (air line) between Orlando and Tampa is 77.34 mi (124.46 km).

Distance from Conroe to Galveston is 129 kilometers. This air travel distance is equal to 80 miles.

175 mph winds but that won't last

They never maintain that kind of level - that's perfect conditions.

Also should hit windshear and dry air before hitting florida so hopefully it weakens significantly before landfall.

The thing that is worrying is the storm surge into Tampa. Even if it weakens before landfall to a Cat 3 that storm surge doesn't just disappear. Remember the storm surge along the gulf coast around Biloxi etc when Katrina came in as cat 3. Now imagine all that water being funneled into a bay. Homes near the water are in serious danger of being obliterated if the track forecast doesn't change.

Is the one where the climate deniers finally say “huh maybe things have changed”?

Lord help Tampa if this is a direct hit at CAT3 or higher.

Nope. Sea levels could rise 10 feet, and they'd be tweeting "climate change is a hoax" from their living rooms, six feet deep.

Or, if you're Marjorie Taylor Green, you just blame the deep state and the Democrats (or maybe the Jews, she's not real clear about who "they are).

These new hurricanes are not forgiving. If one comes to Houston I'm dipping.

Florida is going to get it.

Would y'all evacuate to Katy if you are on the east coast of South Florida, but like 15 miles inlands, and realtor.com says your flood risk is 1/10, and you have a house with hurricane windows and doors, and a generator?

    Or just stick it out?

Seems like none of our friends here is worried at all whatsoever.

The eye is less than 8 miles across -- I believe the smallest ever measured was about 4 miles.

I think Wilma has the record for an Atlantic storm -- it definitely had the lowest pressure.

Edit: The eye of Hurricane Wilma was 2.3 miles (3.7 kilometers) in diameter at its peak intensity on October 19, 2005, making it the smallest eye ever recorded in a tropical cyclone.
    ______

The eye of Wilma was smaller than the largest tornado -- I didn't realize it was that tiny.

If you’re in the direct path I wouldn’t take the risk. Given the size of this storm could still have 100 mph winds even in the east coast. As we see in Helene and other hurricanes roads could be impassible after the storms.

We saw this with Beryl but these storms are increasing in intensity fasts it seems like in two days Milton went from a tropical depression to a CAT 5 hurricane.

I feel so bad for the folks in Florida and there Gov won't return calls to the WH even after being invited to meet with Biden..............these political stunts will end up hurting real floridians.....Sunny D says the calls seem "political" in nature as trump says Kamala has spent ALL THE FEMA money on immigrants which we all know is a lie. Politicizing these events is an afront to hating regular people for political gain. It is sick and disgusting

Good luck to all those in its path and take it from someone whose been there, DONT STAY and ride it out

I would not trust a real estate website for my source of decision making.
