320 to right center is an even bigger issue. It's like the crawford boxes...if they extended all the way to center field.
Anthony Huezo just hit his 4th home run of the season down in the FCL. He could be something, but the slash line shows he's worlds away from getting there.
Yeah, you made me look. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCormick_Field Left Field: 326 ft Left-Center: 370 ft Center Field: 373 ft Right-Center: 320 ft Right Field: 297 ft I guarandamntee you I played on HS fields bigger than that (especially the ones with no OF fences)
I think there’s 2 things working against the guys in Asheville, the park and the fact that they are probably still being directed to focus more on development than results, whereas when they get to corpus they are out of that hitters park and also probably allowed to focus more on just getting guys out.
Add in Asheville’s altitude of 2100’ and an average deep FOs becomes HRs. I expect the Asheville stop is where pitchers work on inducing GOs.
More Fun Facts: A bulk of it was at the old Durham stadium though. My aunt was a caterer on the movie set. I went to a game there the season after it was filmed. The bull in the outfield that if a player hit, they won a free steak wasn't actually there before the movie. They left it up and a local restaurant sponsored it. That experience of going to that terrible old stadium is what made me fall in love with baseball. At the time, they were the AA of the Braves, who were historically bad. But those players were some of the ones that formed the early base of what the Braves became in the early 90's. I remeber getting Steve Avery's autograph that night.
Miguel Ullola with 5.1 no-hit innings for Corpus; he walked 3 and struck out 4. Jacob Melton and Collin Price both hit their 9th home runs of the season.
It's certainly useless for us box score watchers, but the organization has eyeballs on the product and actual data. They know the difference between a ball that was legit crushed and little league pop fly HR's.
Definitely, but trying to pitch/hit to the ballpark leads to bad tendencies though. Pitchers may be hesitant to throw certain pitches to certain parts of the plate, hitters can get pull-happy. Players have mentioned that sort of mental stuff wrt places like Coors Field, the Crawford Boxes, etc. It's just not an ideal developmental environment, much like that launching pad in Cali where we had a team for a while (was it Lancaster?)
Late-bloomer who signed towards the end of the last IFA period. Now you know about his story as much as I do until the Chron runs a piece about him if/when he gets to Houston.
They could always just raise the wall to take away the line drive homers. Doesn't help the pop ups but it's something.
I'm sure they have their reasons, but it seems like he should have been stateside already. The kids on the island clearly have nothing to offer him, his numbers are wasting my time dominant.
Austin Deming hit his 12th home run for Asheville. With the draft coming up, there will be a ton of movement within the system, and at 24, it's probably time to see if he's an actual prospect (he's not really one, to be honest). His home/road splits are pretty even this season so he's probably not a product of the Asheville Effect.
