He’s been a well below average AAA hitter (<90 wRC+) going back 2 years and over 600 pa. He walks a lot, can hit the ball hard, and has defensive value. But he doesn’t barrel the ball frequently enough or hit enough flies/line drives to generate the extra bases needed for him to be a viable major leaguer. I’m surprised he’s held onto his 40 man spot this long.
Luis Garcia got knocked around in his first rehab start for Corpus as he allowed a pair of two-run homers in the 1st against San Antonio. On the bright side, James Hicks allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out seven over five scoreless out of the bullpen.
It’s odd that despite having average power and above average speed, he hits very few HR and doesn’t steal very many bases and isn’t considered very good in CF. But he walks a lot and doesn’t strike out too much
Kelly Austin has done some fine work out of the bullpen for both Class A teams. Wonder if they'll turn him into a starter again...
Anderson Brito allowed one hit and struck out eight over four scoreless this morning for the DSL Blue team. He's now 2-0 with an 0.51 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 6 appearances (3 starts, 17.2 IP total) in his first season of pro baseball.
MLB.com has really improved their prospect coverage. Not sure why they have Rhett Kouba as the #12 prospect in the system though.
Jackson Nezuh wasn't at his best, but he made it through five innings and also didn't walk anyone. 5 IP, 6 H (2-R HR), 5 ER, 9 K Wilmy Sanchez was the first man out of the Fayetteville bullpen and he allowed a hit, walked one, and all six of his outs were strikeouts.
