This needs to happen. Bring up JL to replace Singleton Let JL play some CF/LF/1B and play him 4-5 days a week.
Loperfido will have his strikeouts come down some - that 0-6 with 6 K’s is weighing him down. I do know that Loperfido worked with the advanced coaches on extension of his swing - as he has made a concerted effort to generate more power. Weird prospect - I cannot tell if he is more Jason Lane or Geoff Jenkins.
Some posted exit velos for some minor leaguers this spring: Bush 107 Ochoa 100 Barber 107 Fisher 111 Sacco 106 Brewer 108 Casserilla 100 Stevens 103 Hamilton 106 Cabbage 106 Cerny 107, 110 Carrillo 104 Leon 109, 110 Whitaker 109, 109 Loperfido 106 Hensley 100 Whitcomb 111 Villarroel 106 Typically guys who can post 105+ will have above average power and guys who can reach 110 have elite power. The power/speed/arm combo that Leon, Cerny, Whitaker, Cabbage, and Whitcomb have is really really good. Tough break on the strikeout concerns.
Some posted pitch velocities for Astros minor leaguers this spring: Derek True 98 Yeriel Santos 97 Ryan Gusto 98 Ian Foggo 99 Michael Knorr 98 Miguel Ullola 99 Abel Mercedes 102 Alex Santos 96 AJ Blubaugh 97 Arrighetti 96 These came from baseball savant: Tamarez 97 McDonald 95 Kouba 92 Gaither 96 Henley 92 King 94 VanWey 96 Strotman 95 Washington 94 Contreras 94 Crazy that a guy throwing 92 is now considered a soft tosser. I know Strotman and Tamarez have hit 100 in the past.
The walk rates for pretty much all of those int’l arms promoted from the FCL were terrible. You never know when a young guy will figure it out but I imagine there will be a lot of runs allowed in Fayetteville this season.
First 4 guys are data darlings who will be studs if they minimize the strikeouts, next 4 guys are sleepers who we won’t know much about until they get to AA, Ferreras I assume is a placeholder until Jeron Williams is back.
Yeriel Santos has hit 101 before, did it last year a number of times. He will throw harder, he is young, hasn’t filled out and they are working on the delivery- he realistically will likely have a fastball of 100+ consistently. Problem is walks -
