The league only allows 1 position player and 1 pitcher now. ? So much depends on the next 29 hours. I say Leon if he's not gone and they don't get an OF bat. Pitching is too unknown.
I predict Dombroski is gonna tear it up in Corpus. Pecko makes 3 pitchers from last years draft already reaching AA.
They are afraid that Whitley will sprain his arm putting on the seat belt getting on the plane - or maybe he will take pills out of a pill bag offered by a guy that looks like Charles Manson sitting next to him on the plane. Seriously - Whitley is the big flake around, he can keep proving it for awhile before he sniffs MMP.
Probably? Matthews has a real outside shot - and the other option is the Astros get someone as a free agent. The Astros need players under team control, that is what makes this whole thing work - so if the Astros think he will be average or better next season, they likely give him the job and spend the money at another position of need.
He is a better defender that JD LEGO HEAD Davis. He can probably stick at 3rd base. He is a good athlete, fairly fluid for his size and has an adequate arm. His footwork is solid too. His issue is that he doesn't have great reaction reflexes at third.
Dezenzo is rapidly attaining 2021 Jeremy Pena status. If Pena was 80% of Correa (100% glove and 60% offense) Can Dezenzo be 80% of Bregman? (75% of the glove 85% of the offense)
He has some very bright flashes of future success - but he has to get these guys into the big leagues and playing well. Right now I think both his draft and international signings look very promising - and it is hard to argue that his player development changes haven't seen positive results. I think it is too early to know how good he will be - but there is at least hope. Truth be told, if he is good enough at drafting and developing players, it won't matter if he is mediocre at trades and free agent signings. Baseball in 2024 is largely about maximizing the first 5-6 years of a big leaguers career.
Not sure I buy this report, but I’d guess Dana wants to keep Dezenzo (Bregman insurance) and Matthews because that was his first guy.
Also, I don't see why Loperfido would be untouchable. If this guy has any inside info that is bad because it sounds like teams are ONLY interested in guys Dana refuses to trade and therefore nothing is getting done. If he had a chance to trade Loperfido for a SP or bat that improves this team and refused or tried to negotiate losing the deal w/o circling back and agreeing then that is a big problem. Also he chose Bloss for promotion over Blubaugh. I would expect him to be over A.J. in the "untouchable" pecking order.
At this point in his career Brown has shown the potential to become a good GM. President of operations (the question I was responding to) requires a more rounded skill set in my opinion. I just do not see a path for that at this time.
Both DSL squads played doubleheaders today; the Blue team got swept by the Red Sox's Red team 2-0 and 4-2, while the Orange team swept the Rays' second squad. In the first game, Jose Quesada hit a three-run homer for the Orange team. Quesada is a 19-year-old outfielder from Cuba in his second DSL season. He's shown some decent power, but he's also defensively limited to a corner or 1B. Eduardo Perez, aka Aaron Judge, hit a grand slam in the second game for his first home run of the season. It's been a rather frustrating season for Perez; he probably had an injury that resulted in a delayed start and has basically been trying to play catch-up this year.
Based on this Bloss for Kikuchi Trade I take back Dana getting Promoted, now he should be Demoted to Scouting.
That Bonda guy is saying if he's not traded, Leon getting called up on Wednesday (or after the deadline?).
I would like to see Leon get his shot at LF. In fact I probably would put him in CF and put Meyers in LF.
