I believe if your scouting, development is good you should be able to add 4-5 quality prospects each year, pretty much regardless of losing a high pick here are there.

Getting Matthews and Bloss is an example of this, then adding a couple of stud international prospects each year.

Look at the Braves that how they've been good despite picking at the bottom of the draft most yrs.

I've got Sullivan, McGary, Janek, Powell, Forucci, Wagner as most likely to be these 2-3 guys out of this class from what I've read.

Gotta add a couple of international guys though.

One thing I like about Janek is he seemed to hit well against their best opponents. 3-9 against Ok St, 4-5 against A&M, 5-9 against UH, but he was 0-3 against Texas.

Can’t imagine Wagner’s bonus was all that much if they were able to sign him without having savings from Janek or Forcucci.

If Ramsey David gets the same $10K that Deming got last year, they could give him ~300K from that alone.

Top round picks have their contract paramaters agreed upon before the draft. So do many of the lower (overslot) ones...or else they wouldn't be drafted by [team]

Yes, but letting the other guys put pen to paper first is risky. **** happens. See the pickle Houston go into with Jacob Nix and the league having to bail Houston out.

Lol Twine Palmer gets overslot while Wagner signs for slot. I know nothing about the MLB draft. No wonder they felt pretty good about their ability to sign Wagner.

They saved ~80K on David and Smith, while spending ~50K on Twine. The remainder seems destined to Powell, McGary, or some UDFA willing to sign for a little over slot a la Xavier Caserilla last year.

They also get the 5% overage allowed. I imagine Janek will sign a bit under slot and Powell will get a sizable overslot bonus and will be a little surprised if any others get much variance from slot.

I'm really hoping Dana can sign both Powell and McGary.

Remember the Mac Marshall/Jacob Nix (and Aiken) fiasco?

    Seems like yesterday. Good times.

Notable that none of these players went on to do anything of note in the big leagues. But they were all victims of slot money manipulation.

    This ends this PSA.

That was how many years ago?

    Rules are different now.

Correct. I'm just saying this is a different structure than the Wild West when you could spend anything on anybody. Things are taken care of before the Draft, or else you wouldn't get drafted by X team in the first 12 rounds.

The league office needed to fix the rules (which they did) if they didn't like the way Luhnow did business.

Screw the league office. Bunch of Peter Principle hypocrites.
