Well he would be a flyer guy. Lots of control and can play All OF spots. Switch hitter and once was tops in MLB prospectus. Hasn't found his swing all the way but still has a boat load of talent. He could be a CF of the future for us. Moving fan Fav McCormick to LF. If they don't add a OF via Trade. The guy just needs a new Scene could be a Steal if he puts it all togather. Still young.
Hendricks Bard Graveman All pretty cheap. We should be buyers, but responsible buyers. This isn't 2017 when all we needed to do was get a superstar pitcher JV. We aren't that close. Don't give away the farm. Literally.
So batter wise, I don't see why we go after anyone. You have Diaz/Julks/Dubon for the DH. What singular player would outperform those bats? Certainly not non power hitter Verdugo. We are set with the bats. You could maybe go with a veteran for depth. That's it.
Yeah give Chicago whatever the **** they want. Either Chicago team. Cease, Robert, Bellinger, Stroman…. Get it done. We look like absolute ass.
I don’t know what Stroman and Bellinger will bring the Cubs in trade - but I do know that Cubs fans are nearly as clueless Yankees fans when it comes to the value of their players and team.
Why is locked on Astros saying Houston is in talks with the White Sox on Cease or Robert's? Just curious
Carlson would not help fill the biggest offensive need this team has - he's a reverse split guy better vs LHP than RHP. 2023 .663 ops vs RHP .845 ops vs LHP Career .683 ops vs RHP .865 ops vs LHP Might as well just keep the guys already on the team.
Not Snake or Nook, but I'm thinking it would take a lot. From the CWS perspective, one of Alvarez, Tucker, Valdez, Brown, Javier, Pena, or Diaz would need to be in the deal. I think the 1st 6 names are non-starters for the Astros. At least one of McCormick and Meyers if not both. Luis Garcia would be an interesting add because he likely has some value and isn't needed this year. A 30-minute shopping spree through the Astros farm system.
The problem is not the number of solid bats on this team, it's the skill set of the bats on this team. Of the 11 hitters w/ the most PA on this team, only Alex and Diaz hit RHP better than LHP. By OPS, 5 are above average and 6 are below average vs RHP. vs RHP(League average OPS is 731) Yordan .970 Altuve .961 Diaz .866 Tucker .863 Chas .836 Alex .820 Julks .707 Meyers .671 Abreu .644 Pena .637 Dubon .632 Maldy .516 Teams contending for an AL Playoff spot have 83% RH starting pitchers. The Astros have 3 OF who all have the same skill set offensively. Chas, Julks, and Meyers all are much better vs LHP than RHP. All will strike out and walk much less. All have good but not game changing power and speed. Chas has elevated himself. He has hit both RHP and LHP and has earned an everyday role. Corey and Jake might as well be the same player. The best thing this team can do is add a run producing bat that hits very well vs RHP. Both Julks and Meyers need to sit vs RHP. This new guy can play LF/CF/DH since Chas and Yordan will still be in the lineup.
FWIW I still think pitching is the biggest need on this team. But the prospect of fielding a lineup vs RHP in the playoffs that includes Maldy, Pena, and some combination of Julks, Meyers, and/or Dubon basically is 33% nearly automatic outs.
