FWIW, Musgrove wasn't really a prospect - he had been with the Astros for the 2 previous seasons at that point. They were basically trading a future potential good rotation guy for a current ace. But even knowing what we know now - we didn't win a title with Cole, we unlocked him as an ace, the Yankees got him, Joe Musgrove became a pretty damn good pitcher. If we could go back in time, would anyone NOT make that trade? It gave the Astros a couple of amazing and exciting seasons and got us to Game 7 of a World Series.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for another great trade deadline thread. Special shout outs to @Nook @Snake Diggit @J.R.
Why damn? It’s way better than going to Texas or any other actual contender. Some of y’all really complaining about “that’s it” after acquiring Graveman and JV LOL The best SP that ended up moving and one of the best bullpen arms. Eduardo Rodriguez, Bednar, Hader, Snell, Stroman, etc. all stayed put. The deadline as a whole including bats didn’t have many difference makers being moved. Edit: The complaining part wasn’t directed to you FYI
Corey Lee, Drew Gilbert, and Ryan Clifford moved for about 35 (or 50) million dollars in Luxury Tax Savings over the next 2 or 3 years.
