A deal for Verlander that costs Brown wouldn't substantially improve the team in the short term and would drastically harm the team in the long term. It's gotta be a no go.
It's up to JV to call the Mets bluff on this. If he really wants to go to Houston and out of NY then he'd have to hope that the Mets definitely would rather take him off the payroll than see the possibility of his stock going down in the off-season or next year. Of course JV has every incentive to play well so he can hit his 140 inning/$35 mil for 2025, but still a gamble on a 40+ year old. If it truly is between the Dodgers and Astros then I think this goes all the way to the wire. Either JV waives his clause for LA or the Astros bump up their offer a bit, but I don't see JV holding out the possibility of staying in NY for too long.
Probably a top 100 type prospect the Mets like. Couple that with Gilbert and that may be enough with the Mets paying half his contract down.

Honestly it scares me too Yah I don't care about him losing money, I am worried who we will lose in future free agency as a result of getting a old pitcher
What about a McCullers Verlander swap? The Mets probably want to get back to contending asap, and McCullers if healthy helps a lot with that.
