What are the odds the Mets and Astros have a basic framework in place but the Mets won’t close the deal until they’ve had a chance to shop him to other teams? Everything is dependent on JV’s list of acceptable destinations. I would hope he would say no to Texas.
OMG it’s happening. JV and Max are next. I would bet money JV is traded prior to his next start on Sunday.
I think the Rangers will trade for Verlander and possibly Max at the same time. They wanna fuel this rivalry so bad and prove they can do it. And they will give the moon to do so
Same. Already familiar with Maldy, and he'd be easily welcomed in this clubhouse. Plus, he's just one of the faces of the Golden Era Astros.
Verlander has been really solid his last 6 starts after getting off to a slow start post injury and starting the season late.
One of the smartest things a team can do is sign high profile free agents for a few years to get good prospects at the trade deadline
Arlington is done IMO. That team is a house of cards, while the Stros have kept pace with a shell of what their team is going to be for the rest of the season. The Rangers pitching has recently started to show cracks. Surely JV can see that too.
https://www.mlb.com/news/trade-deadline-notebook-justin-verlander-nolan-arenado The frontrunner for Verlander, according to one source, would likely be the Rangers, who are said to be seeking rotation help and are taking an aggressive approach to the Trade Deadline. It should be noted that Texas pursued Verlander last winter, but the pitcher expressed no interest in joining the Rangers, who were coming off of their sixth consecutive losing season. “Maybe that’s changed with their performance,” one executive said.
I haven’t heard he is available but the Cards are willing to move just about anyone for young, inexpensive starting pitching. They believe they can address offense anytime.
A week ago or so I posted Rangers are interested in Verlander, and will be very aggressive in trade market. Verlander has a no trade clause, and his agent let the Mets know he would waive it but wanted to be told by management if anything was happening possibly - and as of a couple days ago he had heard nothing… he also said he is happy staying in NY. If Verlander is moved it’s because of the talent they get back, not because the Mets don’t want Verlander.
