Still remember watching that thinking "Holy Crap!" When you're on, you're on. Amazing game. Lost in all that is that Shane Reynolds pitched his ass off that day as well. He was a Dave Clark error and a slow ground ball to 3B from pitching a shutout as well.
Was in the press box for that game. Was an incredible game on both sides. The pitches that Wood was throwing in the last AB were just as good if not better than some of the first he threw.
Appatently contreras is horrible at calling pitches. Another good call by dusty to not bring him into the org
He's been bad behind the plate for a while...he's blocked at DH by Gorman (until he finds an actual position) so this reeks of desperation by a team that is struggling mightily. ETA: just noticed there's a Contreras thread, so no need to muck up this one with talk about him
Picked up a lefty reliever from Philadelphia named Nick Allgeyer. Baseball Reference indicates he has been assigned to the minors, though he picked up a scoreless inning for Philadelphia in 2021. Cash consideration means low cost.
That was the era when the Cubs changed from Lovable Losers to Arrogant Pricks worthy of endless hostility. ANDYSERALOL destroyed the MLB team message boards by hacking in and deporting all the long time members. MLB decided it wasn't worth the effort to administer the BS.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/05/astros-acquire-nick-allgeyer-from-phillies.html The Astros acquired minor league lefty Nick Allgeyer from the Phillies in exchange for cash considerations. For the past two-plus years, [he] has mostly pitched in Triple-A. He’s worked in a swing role, starting 36 of 61 appearances. Over 202 1/3 Triple-A frames, Allgeyer carries a 5.34 ERA with a slightly below-average 20.9% strikeout rate and an elevated 11% walk percentage. Allgeyer started four games with the Phils’ top affiliate after signing a minor league contract over the winter. He’s struck out 15 and walked six in 12 innings of six-run ball while keeping the ball on the ground at a solid 48.3% clip.
Not a horrible idea, but I'd take the odds against it working IF--> OF is way easier than the vice versa, just because of basic skills
