This is absolutely ridiculous. News flash…it takes two to tango. We traded for the BEST starter available, IMO by a good margin too, and one of the better relievers that were actually moved. The best reliever traded was Chapman and that was well before the deadline. Did you want Scott Barlow? Because he’s been trash all year and just got rocked the other day with SD. Bednar apparently wasn’t available or his price was sky high and SD became buyers instead of sellers. Same with the bats that were actually available and moved. Bellinger looked like a great fit but they pulled him off the market and became sellers. So who exactly did you want that was actually available that would have moved the needle for us? We already have Diaz, Chas, etc. sitting on the bench on a semi regular basis because of Dusty’s love for Maldy so where were we realistically going to upgrade? Your post analysis: F
it's pretty simple - 3 needs, filled 1. i sadly agree with dusty's unwillingness to field the best possible lineup anyway as an argument for it possibly not mattering much if they added a bat anyway, but i'm pretty sure his stubborness/idiocy doesn't factor into FO trade calculations.
Once again who did you want them to trade for that was actually moved? You realize the rest of the contenders (Orioles, Blue Jays, Mariners, Twins, NYY and Boston) outside of Texas did absolutely nothing, right? Edit: The FO tried to kick the tires on Hader and Snell as you stated. They can’t help that SD took them off the market.
stros made trades depending on what those team's did? that makes sense. they all had exact same degree of need? and why are players who were moved the only ones who matter? we dont know who was available. we know they wanted a bat, and we know they wanted another reliever. got neither and now they are left with the same scuffling bullpen and praying that jon singleton (i'd focus on how insane this is if i wasn't so pumped and rooting for him so hard) fills the bat need.
Supposedly the Astros had the framework of a deal with SD for a starter and reliever (speculation Snell and Hader). SD pulled out because they decided to not become sellers.
Was talking to my buddy in the Cardinals organization this afternoon. He is at a complete dismay about Bregman and Pena's current batting approach. Laughed about the measures Bregman has taken to keep his top hand on top via his swing and Pena's weight shift which is why he can't hit off speed. Feels like easy fixes that aren't being addressed. Pena will never see the breaking ball until his weight is more centered as compared to his weight sitting on his backfoot.
With all due respect to your buddy, I don’t think he can tell Bregman jack **** about how to hit. Pena is more understandable, but I’d be hard pressed to believe your friend has more knowledge on swing mechanics than Breggy.

there's no "take" in there lol. responding to ur silly "well other good teams who don't all have the same needs didn't make the trades the astros wanted to make either!" take. best wishes boss. i learned to stop arguing with angry internet strangers who can't discuss dissenting opinions like civilized, non-angry folk awhile back.
