And as much fun as it would be for us diehard fans, the teams would never agree to it. Most would already rather have another week or so to determine if they are legitimately in the race or not, so being forced to make those decisions in early July would never work Now, move the draft back to June, even if it was late June, then move the ASG to the end of July and have a similar schedule to what he proposed without the draft obviously, and you would have something that team officials might buy into
Yes, I agree my idea would be better/easier to implement if they pushed the draft and all star game back another week or two. And it would definitely be something the players and front offices wouldn’t like. GMs would be slammed preparing for the draft and coordinating trades in that couple weeks leading up to it, and players would hate answering questions about trade rumors during all star week. It would be something for the fans, which is what the sport should be all about. That said, if all the GMs were in the same place for All Star week, they could probably work out trades quicker/easier, much like at the Winter Meetings.
You typed your reply inside the quote box of the comment you quoted. It’s there just inside the quote box.
Maybe offer the trading team a reverse prorated amount of playoff money if traded before mid-July? MLB determines an amount from playoff money = X. If a team trades a player to a team that ends up making the playoffs they get a spiff. If traded prior to 6/1: team gets X amount if traded 6/1-6/30: team gets 75% of X if traded 7/1-7/15: team gets 50% of X if traded after 7/15: team gets no bonus. After then trades can be done until the current way.
This just seems like it's encouraging teams to give up on their seasons earlier, and to try to only trade with the best teams. I would think that's the opposite of what MLB would want.
Yea draft would have to be earlier and deadline a bit later And teams wouldn’t be that crazy about it cause I’m not sure how much new fan interest it would bring I mean all of us on here would be crazy about it, but we are here anyway lol. Casual fans wouldn’t care that much probably
Got to take 5 swings at Minute Maid today. Was lots of fun. I made contact all 5 times. Would have gone 0-5 if it was a real game.
I hope the moves the Astros make at the deadline allow them to use Bielak and/or Dubin in a 2 inning relief role. I think both players have a chance to be really really good in that spot. I even think Dubin still has a chance to be a good late inning reliever.
Abreu, Maton, and Pressly MUST be used less the rest of the season. Your idea is fine. I see both of them as 5th-7th inning options or multiple late innings with a big lead/deficit. But I think the Astros are hoping to bring in RPs who have more experience and control for next year. Next year will be interesting. I hope Brown is as good as Click - Neris, Maton, and Stanek are all FA
A 2nd half staff with 6 SP (Framber, TBD, Javier, Brown, France, Urquidy), 6 single inning RP (Pressly, Abreu, Neris, Maton, Stanek, Montero), and 2 multi-inning RP (Bielak, Dubin) would be fine by me. That would leave Blanco and Watkins as SP options in AAA (assuming Whitley doesn’t come back) with Kuhnel, Martinez, Gage, Mushinski, Paredes, and Taylor as optioned RP.
