Man, I just hope that after the All-Star break... we see a different team take the field with different everyday starters (injury permitting, listed in order & with no excuse why those can't be the preferred "depth" players) at various key positions & in the lineup than what we've been seeing recycled the past month, including: C - Diaz, Lee, MM** 1B - (player to be named), Dubon, Alvarez, Abreu** DH - Alvarez, Diaz, Dubon, Meyers, Julks ... the DH/LF you thought was going to return (in Brantley) is deactivated/IL'd til further notice LF - Meyers, Alvarez, Dubon, Julks SP/RP - go start scouting for underutilized and long-relief studs & most importantly, MGR. - trade him trade w Detroit in a straight up swap or find out which other managers want to get back into the game, know what they are doing to deliver consistent POSITIVE/WINNING results & want to get a ring... it can be done. Hell, I'd package up all 3 that need to go in one sweet deal for a good pitcher and decent bat. Top priority: 1B consistent hitter who could be a multi-use utility infielder + SP/RP **if needed, last resort, worst case scenario, players in front of have lost fingers or hands... This is exhausting watching this team and watching the trio of Altuve, Bregman, Tucker try to carry this team
what happens when the Rangers sweep us in their house next week and the Games Behind # reaches double digits.....
Time to start playing for next season. Baker has been responsible more than 5 losses with his stupidity.
1B should no longer be a priority. Abreu has a .757 OPS and .461 slg this month. Not great, and he has been streaky, but we'll above average MLB production and solid for a #5 or #6 hitter. Add in that the team will need a place to get Diaz into games once Alvarez returns, then 1B should no longer be the focus of a position to improve. Pitching must be the priority. I thought this team needed 1-2 more arms to have a legitimate chance to contend, but they need 3 just to have a reasonable chance to make the playoffs. The bullpen has actually been unlucky this month but is clearly top heavy and needs some help or else Abreu, Neris, and Maton will be on fumes come October. BAbip in June (MLB season avg = .297) Stanek .500 (career .275) Maton .400 (career = .317) Montero. 400 ( career = .335) Abreu .370 (career = .311) Martinez .304 (career .292) Pressly 269 (career = .294) Neris .227 (career .287) The bullpen has been giving up hits it usually doesn't. This should regress back to the norm and make the walks less tragic. However, to avoid the fatigue that doomed the team in 2021 this staff needs to be 13 deep and it's arguably only 10-11 deep now.
Gotta find a bat, a solid Lynn type starter and a reliever or 2. Brown has his work cut out for himself.
DH Altuve SS MVPeña LF Alvarez RF Tucker 3B Bregman C Diaz 2B Dubon 1B Abreu CF McCormick Crazy? Edit: or maybe split up the lefties: DH Altuve SS MVPeña LF Alvarez 3B Bregman RF Tucker C Diaz 2B Dubon 1B Abreu CF McCormick
Literally just asked this in the Trade thread. It would be a fun story and could provide that much needed shot of energy?
I like the 9 players but Dubon should hit 9th. Putting him 7th is a total waste. He does not have the skills to hit anywhere but 1, 2, or 9.
