Yes the Rangers had 3 starters with a lower wRC+ than Maldy in the 2nd half Heim 76, Jung 71, and Taveras 72.

Altuve was 90 OPS greater than Semien this year. Marcus is a better defender, but Altuve's postseason history is better.

    Agreed with Tucker > Garcia

Altuve and Semien both had subpar LDSs, but Altuve was still 100 OPS points better in the series.

Taggart was trying hard to post pictures of Rangers.

Intangibles ultimately win playoff games because by now, you only have the best teams in baseball.

So I took wRC+ for full season ( ×3), 2nd half (×2), and post season (×1) to get an average wRC+ for the 20 position players (10 most used on each team)

    1) Yordan 206
    2) Carter 198*
    3) Seager 187
    4) Garver 156
    5) Altuve 144
    6) Chas 131
    7) Tucker 130
    8) Bregman 129
    9) Garcia 124
    10) Abreu 117
    11) Semien 115
    12) Jung 114
    13) Dubon 105
    14) Brantley 103*
    15) Lowe 102
    16) Grossman 100
    17) Pena 95
    18) Taveras 89
    19) Heim 84
    20) Maldy 63

    * very few PA

Diaz would be 97 due to terrible postseason game. He would be 136 for regular season only.

Fair enough but Semien was a 7 WAR player and Altuve prorates to a little under 5 for a full season. I’ll take the 162 game sample size over the 90 games.

I wouldn’t argue with a push, but I don’t think you can say Altuve is the better second baseman this season.

He had a 7 WAR season (average br and FG) and a 124 wRC+. That’s pretty monster in book.

it's the postseason. nobody cares what you did in the regular season. And simien in the first two rounds hasn't exactly been good

162 games of performance is a much better predictor than 5.

Defensive difference must be pretty great.

Semien should thank Astros injuries and Astros Opponent's MVP for playing inferior players so Altuve could score less runs and get fewer RBIs.

how did that 162 games performance work out for balt, lad, and atl. great predictor eh

tuve has more than enough sample size to speak for himself. and that's contributing to winning. easily my 2b over Simien anyday

I don't think there is a wrong answer here. Both are superstars.

I have no idea how Semien's bWAR is 1.1 more than his fWAR, while Altuve's is 1.2 less?

I honestly don't understand what is used to construct WAR by the various sites and what the difference is.

By fWAR Semien is 6.3 and Altuve is 7.2 per 162 games.

By bWAR Semien is 7.4 and Altuve is 5.0

I would say that's pretty even. Averaged out it's 0.8 difference with each having the upper hand in one of the sites.

I think that makes post season the tie breaker so I'm taking Altuve.

    Just my opinion.

How is Maldy last. Doesn't wRC+ know how valuable he is ;)

I'm getting this feeling we are witnessing 90s Braves part 2, and the only WS they'll end up winning over a decade of excellence is going to be the 21 series against us.

    Sigh....
