Symphony of errors. Return guy prior to the safety sht the bed. To call a run play was dumb. Last Tulane TD was suspect too. Caleb Williams was putting on a show.
What if I told you that Tulane had a higher ranked defense than K State? Do you feel Young’s performance was better? Or Stroud?
If I had to pick a QB in this draft it would be Young. I wouldn't like it, but this is the guy I think has a chance to be a TOP 10 ish QB in the NFL. Not great but better than what they currently have at QB.
Id prefer to take the best player in the draft vs best QB in the draft with all the holes on this team.
It’s a team game. None of them play defense so I’d probably go with Stroud having the best performance since he played the best defense. All three had great performances though.
Me too. If done right this draft can be a foundational draft. Then draft a QB in 2024. i'm hoping Caserio trades with Atlanta. 2023 1st/ 2nd, 2024 1st 2025 1st.
If it’s as good of a draft as you want, we won’t be in position to draft Williams or Maye next year and no team in those positions would trade out.
Sure they will be with Lovie as HC. They also would have three 1sts to trade up for either Williams or Maye and there will be another QB come out of nowhere to be drafted, like there always is.
What makes you think this team as constructed and with the upcoming draftees would find themselves in no position to draft Williams or Maye? A good portion of scouting publications have these yahoos in the top 5. At a glance I may like the talent at the position in next years draft more than this year. I think Caserio could load up on picks and make some Godfather type offers if he wants to move up in 2024, but I wouldnt expect this team to go from a 2 win season to anything above 5 in one draft. Build up the trenches in preparation for the franchise guy to come in as a cherry on top situation.
Next season when people find flaws in Maye and Williams we will be told to wait until 2025 for Klubnik then 2026 for Manning then 2027 for some kid that’s a junior in HS right now…it never ends.
Playing the trade down game, I just traded down to 4, picking up CHI 24-1 and ARI 24-1 as well as and extra 1 from SEA. As i expected, Young was there at 23-4. What I didn't expect was Stroud being there at 12. I took him as well thinking the lessor of the two would make good trade bait to fill an unexpected need. What would you do if this presented itself to you?
Do you really want to see a young QB sacrificed to the football Gods every Sunday without the requisite supporting cast, proper coaching and scheme? I know we need a QB, but we also need a bunch of other stuff and it just so happens the big board has two guys at the top that also play positions of glaring need for this team and would probably make more of an impact on day 1. Watching the young QB get his butt kicked for a year or two before you can add more talent around him is David Carr all over again for me.
1. Jalen Carter IDL, Georgia Jalen Carter is one of the most physically gifted prospects eligible for the 2023 draft. And if I’m the Texans, I’m looking to allocate the best overall talent with this pick and not box myself into a quarterback. The Texans’ roster isn’t ready to compete and I would strongly consider the possibility that Carter + any quarterback > this year’s QB1 + another prospect. 12. Anthony Richardson QB, Florida So now let me ask you this: Is Bryce Young and Bryan Bresee/Quentin Johnston > Jalen Carter and Anthony Richardson? Perhaps you feel the answer is yes—and I don’t have firm convictions yet on which way I see it myself—but it is at least a scenario worth exploring for a Texans team that has the luxury of time given the nature of their rebuild. Drafting Young to play in the Texans’ current state feels like a non-winning formula anyway, so I like drafting a quarterback with elite tools and understanding he’s likely not ready to take the field immediately, forcing the Texans to continue to build the rest of the group before letting their young passer take the field. ---------- 2. Seattle Seahawks (via DEN/CHI)* Bryce Young QB, Alabama TRADE SEA receives: Pick 1.2 CHI receives: Picks 1.3, 3.85, 4.122, 2024 3rd-rounder Congratulations, Chicago. You’re now a part of the other side of the coin for the Mitchell Trubisky trade. The Bears will have suitors knocking for the No. 2 overall pick, but if they get this kind of “defensive” offer from the Seahawks, I like this play for both sides a lot. For Seattle, they play defense against the teams trying to trade up in front of them with a quarterback on their mind. For the Bears, they still position themselves to draft one of the elite, blue-chip talents of this class but still land extra draft capital. Bryce Young shined in his swan song with the Crimson Tide and all of the things that people are so ready to buy in on: accuracy, instincts, poise, etc. were center stage yet again. Those skills in the backfield with a heavy running game influence and pass-catchers like D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett on the outside is a dream come true for Young. 3. Chicago Bears (via SEA)* Will Anderson Jr. EDGE, Alabama If the parameters of the trade feel familiar, they should. I Xeroxed the Trubisky details and dropped them into Chicago’s future queue. Want more? Want to divebomb to the bottom of the top 10 or potentially further for a treasure trove? No hard feelings, I get it. Maybe that decision has ruined this NFL mock draft for you—in that case, there ARE hard feelings. Chicago secures ammo to move and shake up the board as they please with this deal and still manages to lock down a player many have long considered to be a shoo-in for the No. 1 overall selection—who just so happens to fill a position of need.
Those are my top 2. Different outlets have the orders mishmashed a bit, but most of them have those two guys at the top. Some like PFF do have Young at 1, but then they have Levis at 3 so there is some sort of positional preference at play with them IMO. I would be thrilled if the Texans could nab two of the following guys with the top 2 picks: Anderson, Carter, Murphy, Bresee, Nolan Smith, Tyree Wilson. That would give the defense enough of an influx that that side of the ball could start dictating outcomes. Spend your 2-3 rounders getting the IOL shored up and you may find that there is another project QB in the middle rounds that you feel like giving some snaps to in case you can catch lightning in a bottle like Hooker or Cam Ward for instance. 2024 becomes an all offense type draft with your signal caller and wideouts/skill guys added to the mix.
In the same vein, The QB might not make as much of an impact on day 1, but he'll have more of an impact on day 900, which is more along the lines of our timeline. We're not trying to win right away. We've got the ability to solidify our offensive line in relatively short order. We also got little to nothing out of Mario Williams and Jadeveon Clownery, relative to what a team would get out of a decent quarterback. Think about it this way: What kind of impact did a Solomon Thomas or a Derek Barnett have over a Patrick Mahomes or even a Deshaun Watson (if you take everything else out of it)? (Obviously Watson is not playing well, but still) Go a step further. What kind of long term impact does a TJ Watt have over a Mahomes or Watson? If you have a quarterback that you think can be a top 10 guy in the league, you get him. A singular defensive player does nothing for your team, no matter how good he is, relative to a top 10 quarterback in the league. Of course it depends on who is scouting and making those decisions. For me, there are 2 quarterbacks that I think could potentially have more impact than those guys, especially on a team that has more holes: Levis, and especially Bryce Young. A good quarterback fixes many holes. A good defensive lineman fixes one or two holes.
