I'm not trying to spin anything. Several posters, maybe not you have called Stingley and Green busts because they got hurt, but aren't applying the same logic to Scruggs who also got hurt. Also Green played pretty well his first few games before hurting his shoulder and trying to play through the injury. If you want to be critical of Caserio and the medical staff that's fair game because Green should've had surgery this off-season. Of course this could've fallen through the cracks because the Texans changed team doctors last off-season.
You can thank Lovie for the Stingley pick I wanted Lovie to want Sauce too. Sauce is a great player. If Stingley can become a CB1 and stay healthy then I will be happy, even if he's not quite as good as Sauce.
Most people don't view the 62nd pick in "bust" terms. But even if we did judge him by those standards... we really have nothing to base it on: he hasn't played. Stingley is being judged by where he was selected, who was selected behind him, and, yes, the amount of time he's missed. I don't believe *anybody* thought Green played "pretty well" in his first few games. He's been both bad and hurt. You can try - but no one is going to judge the 3rd and 15th pick the same way they judge the 62nd pick. There's a sliding scale of expectation based on draft position. You should nail a top 10 pick; be pretty good 10-20; after that, it becomes increasingly harder to get picks right, and most fans understand that. Plus, even if we accept your premise - that Scruggs is a bust, like Stingley & Green - how is that a positive for Caserio??,,,
You're missing what I'm saying. All of these guys are young, have gotten injured and it's to early to call them busts. I could care less about positives and negatives for Caserio, I just don't think fans that call players that get injured in their rookie seasons busts are being objective. This goes for the 3rd pick, the 15th pick the 62nd pick or the 200th pick. Injuries happen regardless of where guys are picked
I was playing the game by trading down and collecting 2024 picks and focusing on getting Anderson and Carter in 2023 and one of the top C in the 3rd or trading back up to the bottom of the 2nd if a couple went middle 2nd. I knew we were changing direction, but I thought it would take 2 or 3 years.
Update on Anderson Trade up value: to HOU Point Value 1-3 2200 3-105 225 ---Total 2425--- to ARI Point Value 1-12 1200 2-33 580 2024-1(20) 850 2024-3(84) 170 ---Total 2800--- Net 375 to Arizona or a second (52) to obtain the highest rated non QB player in the next three years at the time.
There was clearly inside knowledge about what the GM community was looking for and brilliant tactical maneuvers by Caserio to make it happen. The speculation, which is all WE have, is that Arizona would have bigger offers if Stroud was there at 3 than there would be if he were not. So the way to get both was to draft Stroud 2 and revisit Arizona for Anderson. Arizona did get Trade capital, so it's not like the deal was lopsided. But we did take the risk that we would improve enough to make the deal reasonable.
They showed the Arizona draft room post draft. They specifically said Tennessee was no longer interested in a trade at 3 after Stroud was chosen. Sounds like the Titans had a deal in place. Insider saying they think Stroud was always the guy. Cites text he had with the organization. Good stuff.

Obviously the dynamic model for future draft value is very different from the Static model most of the analysts used to evaluate trades.
This means Caserio did a great job. However he had to give up 2 great players to get 1. 1-12 Gibbs, 2-32 LaPorta and 2024 1-27. Was WA worth it? I'm thinking yes, because WA is not only a great player at a premium position. He's a leader and a tone setter for the future of this defense and the type of defense Ryans wants to be in the future,
A little misleading though, you have to put WA up against who we would have taken, not who was taken. I’m willing to bet they don’t take Gibbs at 12 with Pierce having a great first year. And I doubt they grab LaPorta since they keep drafting TEs that don’t work out and they had Schultz and Jordan on the roster (at least not at pick 2-32). I get where you’re coming from, and it’s still 1 great player for 2 good players, but we can’t really know who the 2 would have been.
