Dont take it from me. Plenty of guys who get paid to analyze the sport have said that both Williams and Maye go ahead of every QB in this draft and I agree. Expecting this team to pick outside of the top 5 next year is what I would consider irrational. This team is too devoid of talent all over the place to make a jump up to 7 or 8 wins based solely on coaching.
It wouldn’t be based solely on coaching. The schedule is vastly easier than last year’s. We’ll have a great deal of new players in both free agency and the draft. This team has more potential for growth than almost any other team, especially in the afc south. I believe 6 wins is a very realistic number and would still place them outside of the top 5.
Agreed. I actually started wearing NOBULL last year or the year before that because of this website. So thanks @Clutch. Very comfortable attire.
Problem is that 5-6 wins likely takes you out of the Top 5 already. And if Williams/Maye play up to expectations, I can’t see how either falling out the Top 3. More likely go #1 and #2.
Maybe. Too much flux in an NFL season to truly know. Texans still in great position to offer great picks to move up if needed. Not all teams picking at the top will go QB. I'd much rather build the trenches up on both sides. Maybe they go QB in spite of all that and I'd be fine with it. Everything here is all fan preference anyway.
Maybe. A ton of things need to go right for this team to start making incremental steps back to respectability. Playing a rookie QB in itself shouldnt directly lead to more wins IMO.
Supporting a losing team for 22 years will wear on your rosy outlooks. Fan preference is always fun to sift through after the fact. Similar to the draft from last year when it was all rainbows and unicorns with the Stingley and Green picks only for them to fall a little short of expectations. I'm stoked to see what DeMecos vision for a winning team will be.
True but that number has been relatively consistent. Fine with building up the trenches but think it’s a big risk if they are targeting Williams/Maye without an outright tank job. And yes they’ll have the ammo but trading up requires 1) a top team willing to trade, and 2) doing whatever it takes to win the bidding war. If they are as advertised, I’m not sure the former is all that likely.
Depends on the rookie qb. Davis Mills was so inaccurate at times that just having a more accurate rookie qb would have improved the offense.
Heck of a catch 22. It shouldn't be a situation of ONLY seeing a path with Young, Stroud, Levis or Richardson. Maybe they trade for a QB? Maybe they find him in the middle rounds? Knowing how bad your defense is and then going ahead and drafting a QB/WR tandem in the first just seems wonky to me. 1. There seems to always be a team at the top who feels set at the QB position. 2. Houston CAN make Godfather offers - they have the assets.
