How does that change next year or any year for that matter? Picking QBs in the draft is inherently risky. This is a very deep draft class for defensive talent so I don’t think they’d feel pigeon holed into taking a “safe” player at 2.
What is a “good, safe pick”? Players at every position bust, QB or otherwise. Why would next year be any different?
Without being controversial here, is it safe to say that you want the QB to be one of the smartest guys on the team? Someone who can read defenses, comprehend the playbook, and basically be a coach on the field... and also be the primary leader in the locker room and in the community... someone who drives the culture of the players themselves. That is the ideal description of a championship caliber QB. Like a Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Russell Wilson... No disrespect intended, but Anthony Richardson is not that guy.
Brought his thick soles And of course, there’s Pancakes Edit: NFL combine-sponsored shoe Spoiler https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nobull-nfl-combine-sponsor/zrymcyznnrkp08ied3bmwt18 Why is NOBULL sponsoring the NFL Combine? NOBULL first entered into the NFL-sphere by signing Patriots QB Mac Jones to an endorsement deal in 2021. 2023 draft prospects, QB Will Levis and RB Deuce Vaughn are currently partnered with the brand. "The NFL Scouting Combine is an unrivaled opportunity for prospects to showcase their abilities, and we are excited to partner with global training brand, NOBULL to enhance the experience for all participants," said Joe Ruggiero, SVP of Consumer Products at the NFL. "NOBULL will strengthen the prospect look and elevate the event at Lucas Oil Stadium, creating a special moment for prospects as they progress in their athletic journey." They will also help the NFL reimagine the prospect experience off the field by adding a warm-up center, upgrading the prospect registration, training and recovery areas, and the prospect lounge. The 2023 combine will be the start of a multi-year agreement between the two parties. Fans can purchase official NFL Combine gear directly from NOBULL's website. https://www.nobullproject.com/products/black-white-runner-plus-mens
Good and safe should probably start with not having any legal issues prior to the draft. As far as QB is concerned every single one of them this year has less to be excited about than what is coming down the pipe. Both Williams and Maye are WAY better pro prospects for example and I would rather take a stab at one of them then reach for a guy this season. This team is not going to be very good next year the fear that somehow the Texans will play themselves out of another high draft pick is kind of funny plus Houston has the requisite draft assets to be players in move up scenarios. Just because a draft is touted as being defense heavy that doesnt mean that you draft better players in later rounds - that is counterintuitive. Outliers exist of course, but this team is no shape roster wise to take risks in my opinion. They need to absolutely nail their first rounders after the seasons that both Stingley and Green had.
Not a good thing. Leads to more passes getting batted up in the air and intercepted. Also doesn’t bode too well for him getting more accurate if he literally doesn’t believe in touch passes.
Williams and Maye have not gone through the full scrutiny that these prospects have. None of us can predict the future. Either one of them could fall off completely next year or get hurt. Planning to be the worst team in the nfl next year so you can draft one of them doesn’t sound safe or rational.
Doubt if they let him wear those for measurement purposes. I have shoes like that not because they make me taller but rather because they are comfortable.
