Can the Texans just announce CJ as QB1 and not play bullsht games like they did with Watson back then?
This will be interesting because there is a good chance Mills looks better in training camp and preseason due to experience…but if Stroud is the future no sense in wasting time. Might as well put him out there.
Put Stroud as QB1 when his maturity as a player calls for it, not when he's better than Davis or Case or whomever else. I really don't care if he's better than them NOW. I only care if he's ready to take the reins when he's mastered protection patterns and has a more than average understanding of defensive schemes and packages. To be direct... when he is understanding of the offense and knows enough to minimize the possibility of injury.
This actually means something. Stoerner is not just going to blindly cheer everything about the Texans. He actually voices concerns when he sees things aren’t right.
Why? What is the purpose of that? You make CJ compete, earn the position in the eyes of his teammates. Fans are not important in this.
• There’ll be a good juxtaposition over the summer in how teams approach the handling of their young quarterback, with what the Panthers and Texans are doing with the first two picks in the draft. Carolina has named Bryce Young its starter, and Houston is saying C.J. Stroud will compete in camp with Davis Mills for the job. So on one hand, you have a team trying to feed its rookie reps. And on the other, you have a team trying to push its guy. The truth is, it can work either way, and 2020 was a good example of that. The Bengals basically had Joe Burrow as their starter from the jump that offseason, and he had a fantastic first year that might’ve ended with Offensive Rookie of the Year honors had he not torn his ACL. Conversely, Justin Herbert was behind Tyrod Taylor for that spring and summer with the Chargers, and wound up winning the award in Burrow’s place. Also, I think each team’s decision making here matches each team’s progress at this point. The Panthers have a roster ready to win right now, so having their best option at quarterback as ready as possible for Week 1 makes sense. The Texans, conversely, are still building their roster up, and that gives them a little more flexibility to make Stroud earn it.
2x pro bowler and offensive rookie of the year It's not the greatest but you take that out of CJ Stroud.
The only comparison being made was about Dak’s leadership and yet that was somehow extrapolated into a comparison of Dak and Stroud as players. This board is something else. Never change.
