Still think arm is priority, but the mobility is a huge plus if you have the accuracy/arm/processing ability
At bare minimum your QB better give you some wiggle. Thats that last little part missing from my dopamine reward system regarding CJ.
Pocket passing will never die. Being able to play out of structure, will never die either. Luxury to have both, but I still prioritize pocket passing ability more.
Not sure how much I agree with Simms there. I'm sure there's some level of Stroud not fully understanding the protections. But that also seems to be shifting the blame from the root issue. The root issue is the offensive line not being able to pick up basic fundamental stunts on the inside. Maybe Stroud really doesn't understand the protections (which would seem to be out of character for him given how cerebral he is, so if he doesn't understand then maybe it's a Slowik issue?), but I feel the more likely option is just that the interior OL is just absolute garbage right now. If you want to look more at Slowik, I do think there's some fair blame to assign him for the lack of a truly quick passing game, PA game, and RPO game. Every single play seems to take forever to develop right now.
CJ is NOT the most accurate QB in football this year. We all here should be honest with that. He's missed a bunch of easy stuff all season. I think some of that starts to become the internal clock and worry of pressure, but there have been plenty of flat out bad throws in crucial situations. On knowing how to slide protection in terms of what the alignment is I can see how that might be an issue for a young QB especially one who is being affected by some very exotic fronts. That typically is where an experienced center comes into play and helps with making sure everyone is on the same page. Having another young and inexperienced player at center does not help this. Long term I think we should probably try to find a veteran center who is used to the ZBS at the NFL level. Move Juice to guard.
Any of us that have been watching Texans foosball since 2006 will tell you the following. But Aime took it too seriously. I agree with the original tweet. It's a lot too ask for from a 1st year center. It's why I liked the 6th season sweaty vet at Center last year. From the start of the season up to the Colts game, Stroud has said several times, " I want more on my plate."
He is definitely going through it right now. Who knew that when Stroud, last week, said: "We have to buy into this offense." he was talking about Stroud. I like to consider myself a Kubiak Enthusiast myself. On the designed rollouts, you don't free style those. It's schemed open. Just plant and deliver the ball. You'll only get about two of those a game.
He needs to stop traveling this off season and focus back to working on his craft. He got too confident last season.
