"Commits" has become so meaningless, so who cares since they seldom play for the same team 2 years in a row.
You are probably the most passive aggressive pissy person on these forums. Can guarantee you have a miserable life.
There will not be 8-year contracts in the NFL with a 17-game season. In the not too distant future (maybe CJ's second contract), I think a QB will sign a 5-year, $500 million contract.
Obviously we are a ways away from this, but my hope when the time comes is that CJ will recognize that fielding a team that wants to remain competitive will likely necessitate the QB not making as much money as he potentially could. Brady, I recall, took a pay cut in order to help ensure the team had flexibility to bring in good players (or pay the ones they had). I wouldn't blame CJ for maximizing his earning potential, but he strikes me as the personality type that wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in being "the highest paid QB in the league" or whatever other pride related things might go along with that. I could be wrong (I was VERY wrong with Watson). But either way I'm glad Caserio is going all in very early to maximize the window before that new contract would start.
He also had a wife at the time that made even more money than he did, so that made it a bit easier for him to make that decision. Having said that, it's something every QB ought to consider...that is, if winning Super Bowls is a priority.
