There were definitely more than just that. Several made the show with other teams. 2012: Rio Ruiz (O's), Brett Philips 2013: Jason Martin (pirates), Jacob Nottingham (Brewers) 2015: Daz Cameron (tigers), Patrick Sandoval (Angels) 2017: Joe Perez (Astros) Over time the number of HS's Luhnow picked went down and so did the hit rate.
Of the guys who project to be available, IF Gino Groover might be my pick for Houston in the 1st round. Plus hit tool with plus exit velocities. Could be special if he’s able to stick at 2B or 3B and adjust his launch angle to get more HR. scanning through, this looks like a weaker draft after the first 10 picks or so.
Current mock for Astros: 1-28: IF Gino Groover, NC St. (also like SS Brice Matthews, Nebraska) 2-61: 3B Jake Gelof, Virginia (also like 3B Mac Horvatch, UNC) 3-99: RHP Tanner Witt, Texas (also like RHP Brody Hopkins, Winthrop) 4-131: LHP Jaden Woods, UGA (also like RHP Lebarron Johnson, Texas) Names I like for rounds 5-10: IF Roc Riggio, SS Braylen Wimmer, 2B Bryce Arnold, OF Treyson Hughes, OF Colby Shade
I have Tanner Witt as my 2nd choice in the first round. I do not think he makes it to the 3rd round. Just getting started and will not be finished before the end of next week but have some preliminary thoughts. As usual I do not get too far from home but I think White is worth making an exception for. 1st round 1 Thomas White LHP Phillips 2 Tanner Witt RHP Texas 3 Travis Sykora RHP Round Rock 4 Breyden Taylor 3rd base TCU 2nd round 1 Nate Detmer RHP Texas A&M 2 Grant Taylor RHP LSU 3 Kendall George CF Atascocita
Mock drafts in baseball always seem like one of the sillier endeavors. They should just list the top 100 prospects
Any of yall who haven't been watching the College Regionals > Super Regionals >> College World Series >>> SemiFinals >>>> Finals Are missing out on watching a whole metric f**kton of talent and some great baseball
I must admit… I miss the MLB draft being right before the CWS. It was always fun to know where some of the players were heading(especially guys the Astros drafted)
It was fun that way, but I like it like this, no distractions for the players Super Regionals (16 teams) had the 1-2-3-6-8-10-19-24-30-42-47-79-81-87-98 prospects, and that's not counting the teams who lost in the Regionals, and the kids who are not draft eligible yet.
LSU just got ****ing embarrassed in Game2. Tomorrow is a new day, for all the marbles. Ackenhausen starts and Skenes is available in relief. If you haven't seen Skenes pitch over the past 2 years (Air Force, then transfer to LSU), then you're doing something wrong.
I liked what I saw in the college postseason, admittedly that's all I saw of him Here's some history on him (I don't care about random scouting rankings): https://prospectdigest.com/2023-draft-profile-yohandy-morales/ After a great run of games by a whole bunch of teams, the final 2 games of the CWS were a total letdown.
Astros current outfield rotation of Julks, Meyers, McCormick were drafted in rounds 8, 13, 21. That’s almost as wild as how successful we’ve been with low signing bonus international arms.
Draft round for players on the current roster who were drafted by the Astros: 1st: Bregman, Tucker 2nd: Kessinger 3rd: Pena 5th: Brown 8th: Julks 13th: Dubin, Meyers 14th: France 21st: McCormick Getting any core player after the 2nd round is always a boon and getting any player who reaches the majors after the 6th round is exceeding expectations.
Fangraphs is mocking 28. Ty Floyd, RHP, LSU to the Astros “Floyd has the vertical fastball/breaking ball attack Houston covets and there are basically no college arms left”
