I would not pick Whitmore, after watching Villanova games he is not even the best player on the team.

I think that unless they land #1 overall that the best available and the best distributor (Fit) are the same player from picks 2 thru 5.

    2 Henderson pg
    3 Thompson pg
    4 Black (Arkansas) combo guard
    5 Smith (Arkansas) pg

    6 B. Miller (Alabama) wing
    7 Thompson wing
    8 Whitmore (Villanova) forward
    9 Wallace (Kentucky) pg

Then there's Sasser from UH closer to the end of round 1 & Tyrese Hunter from Texas in the early part of round 2.

Black is one of the best shooters in this draft, he might pull off a 50/40/90 season if he can pick up the FT% a bit. Not a whole lot of others have him that high .... but I think he's the best guard on that team and probably the most versatile player in the top 10.

The rest of that list is pretty self explanatory.

So it doesn't seem like Scoot or Wemby are being praised for any defense and I was wondering....

Who's the absolute best defender in this upcoming draft who has already shown themselves capable of hitting a wide open 3pter?

I’m quite sure Vic has been praised mightily for his defense.

You mean shotblocking? I read on some random blogs (which could be inaccurate) that he's easy to beat in the post (cause of strength and center of gravity) plus the perimeter (because he has terrible posture there, comparatively slow laterally). From what I can tell the only thing he's shown defensively is that at 7'5 in a very mediocre league he can protect the hell out of the rim. It looks like shotblocking will translate for him especially with his reach and agility.

Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Talking Amen. I dont know about this guy with the busted shot playing against essentially high school level talent. Do we trade back if we get the 3 pick? Would rather someone more NBA ready and not another project that has a chance to pan out in 3-5 years.

the only trade that would make sense to me is if we trade back with OKC and get our first round pick back next year.

....which would unforunately mean another year of absolute suckage

Why is this thread not more active than the Wemby/Scoot threads?
    Start preparing yourselves. :D
Meltdown will be even bigger than when the Texans just lost the #1 pick.

Because half of the posts are probably in the NBA Draft forum. Unlike the Texans' stupidity, the Rockets don't really control the #1 or #2 pick. They only sorta control whether or not they get a top-5 pick. So if anybody gets pissed off the Rockets don't land Scoot or Wemby after tanking, they're idiots.

I really cannot comment on any prospects until @Medicine N Music tells us whom to pick.

I refuse to think/talk about any prospect outside of Wemby and Scoot.

Folks that want Amen, Ausar is the better shooter and defender.

Hope it is not Brook or Robin Lopez.

    I like

    Wemby
    Scoot
    Miller
    Amen

If we got 5th, I would be pretty disappointed.

He is playing worse than high school competition. AAU schedule is much more difficult.

Amen Thompson is one of the biggest guaranteed busts in recent memory. This kid makes Thabeet/Bennett look like megastars. It's going to be one of those how did we get swindled 15 games into the first NBA season kind of busts.

I seen the Thompson Twins played last week and I vomit in my mouth. They look good on fast break, blocking shots and slams but they cannot shoot at all. Last week, I seen them played on Prime in their playing league, there competition played like below college guys. Amen cannot shoot a lick, he could not even get to the basket. Ausar is a better shooter and both are good defensive players but they cannot start for this team next year. If we do not get the 1st or 2nd pick we are in trouble.

I mostly agree. Think I am liking Miller more and more though.

No to be mean but . .. I don't think anyone cares
Good College Defenders are not on our radar of a need
    At best a Second rounder
Does anyone get drafted in the 1st round based on defense?
