I don't like those odds for 5th pick lol but great news! Now imagine Spurs winning the lottery with basically what could've been our pick...if anyone gets that 1st pick, anyone but the Spurs if we don't get it. Please, for the love of everything that is holy!!!
The Rockets should have locked down the worst record in the league, they had it for awhile..... still, this is better than the alternative. Played with fire going into the last couple weeks of the season, but didn't get burned too bad.
14% Chance to get the French Kareem Abdul Jabbar 27% Chance to get Wembanyama OR Scoot Henderson 40% Chance to get Wembanyama/Henderson or Miller Those are the consensus top 3 in this draft. The have about a 50% chance at getting a top 4 pick and one of: Wembanyama/Henderson/Miller/Thompson That is a pretty good quartet, and all have high end upside. If that fails, the Rockets end up with one of: Ausar Thompson, Jarace Walker, Cam Whitmore or Anthony Black. Anthony Black would basically operate as a point guard for the Rockets, and possibly Ausar Thompson. Walker has high end role player upside, and defensively is a great fit sith Sengun. Walker could potentially be a lock down defender. Cam Whitmore has a lot of offensive upside.
Nice summary of the odds. I wouldn't call Miller consensus top 3 though. In mock drafts/big boards I've seen, opinions seem pretty evenly split between him and Amen Thompson, and I think by draft day Amen will emerge as either the consensus, or at least the favorite. The Combine is going to do wonders for the Thompson twins and is going to hurt Miller with his relatively lower athleticism. I also personally think this front office would go for the upside play over Miller based on their past draft history; we'll see, though. A downside that includes guys like Ausar Thompson, Jarace Walker, and Cam Whitmore is also pretty good. Overall, I like the top of this class and I like our position. Hopefully it'll be Wemby or Scoot but even at #6 my bet is they'll end up keeping the pick and developing whoever they take.
The only way the tie-breaker really matters is if both the Rockets and Spurs fall out of the lottery, which, I guess could happen, but ... And the #20 pick was the worst-case scenario for the Clippers' pick going into the tiebraker, so that one kind of sucks. Hopefully we can trade that unless some miraculously good player drops to that point or we package some of the young players on the roster get traded for in a trade for a vet or something.
Trade out of the draft for proven NBA talent. We already have 8 developing players, we don't have enough room to develop 2 more.....we need to consolidate, and with Tillman wanting to win, cash in a few chips of promise for a proven one now. DD
Get off it already DD. They already said they're not trading out of a top 3 pick, so it's clearly not "Wemby or bust" for this front office and there are clearly at least 3 players they like enough to take and keep. They could try to trade out of a #4-6 if they land there, but it is really hard to find good value when trading picks away, so it rarely happens. Don't be surprised when we pick somebody on draft night and that guy starts the season in a Rockets uniform, regardless of where the pick lands.
