I love that the coaches are fighting back against the possible elimination of walk-ons (due to strict roster restrictions) https://www.espn.com/college-footba...football-coaches-united-support-keep-walk-ons
Everything else is corporate sponsored, from halftime shows to the ****ing coin flip, what difference does naming rights to the conference make? Also:
It's America and yalls BELOVED American capitalism. I do not care if you don't like when I CAP random words. Allstate > private equity. P/E will put it out of business. 1st order of business would be lobbying to end women's sports then eliminating baseball and basketball. Student only sections? RIP
Game theory doing what game theory does. ^^^ now this is the nihilism I've been waiting for Embrace darkness. College athletics no longer exist.
I read the Allstate news the other day and honestly it makes so much sense. We are all being told that rivalries don’t matter…geography doesn’t matter. All that matters is money. This is just another symptom of that. Aside from college hoops, which I’m sure will get all ****ed up too, I’m just about done with college sports. Losing my interest quickly now and has been for some time.
I said this about a different topic in a Texans thread, but I'm doing my damnedest to totally ignore all off-field stuff about sports and just continue to enjoy watching the games, which I still love. This brilliant system has worked for the most part so far, but will absolutely not be getting any easier.
Not absolved...I just think as long as the tournament is still a thing, the product can be better protected. So even Butler and VCU get their shot. From the articles I've read, I'm concerned that the tourney won't survive all this anyway, at which time it will screw hoops up too. I'd also say the very nature of the sport allows for the little guy to get his shot
The NCAA tournament is the greatest sporting event in America. It's the golden goose that keeps the wolves at bay. I don't think there's a lot of appetite to **** with it. Unlike NCAAF, which had no sensible or egalitarian governance/post-season and so when the winds of the free market started to blow the whole thing was un-moored in a matter of years.
I think the tournament is safe as long as the Big East sticks together. Any breakaway competition that doesn't include Connecticut, Villanova, Marquette, etc. will be seen as illegitimate by a lot of fans. And as someone else posted above, I'm just focused on the games. The branding sucks and sounds exactly like something a VC vampire would pitch to the Big 12. At the end of the day, I still care about Texas football and am excited to share that through line with other alumni.
The danger to the NCAA tournament is growing the field, possibly to 96 teams. Greg Sankey has stated (in no uncertain terms IMO) the number must be increased to accommodate more SEC teams.
