If Dodgers hold on here and clinch the NL West, I think they take it very easy tomorrow and rest all their best bats, so most likely a Mariners win. Still satisfied with Dodgers taking 2 though.
Especially being a day game after a night game. And all the celebrating. Still, good to see Seattle lose. We just need to win.
True, but that is normally how baseball is. Compared to most other sports, there is more randomness, and it rarely goes as expected -- especially in stretches of 7 or fewer games. It's why the "best regular season team" rarely wins the WS. Sidenote, I'm not absolving Dusty of making poor choices that worsens the Astros odds/chances, or the batters of being very streaky. Just saying that the Astros fans whining about stress/worry of 'no longer a sure thing' for this team like 4 of past 6 years is a bit much, because that is just a return to the MO and charm of how baseball normally is.
So Texas has not announced their starters for tomorrow, but the Astros have de-facto ace Framber versus Jordan Lyles who has a league worst, 16 losses, 6.44 ERA, and 121 runs allowed. Also tied for 2nd worst with 36 HR allowed.
Yeah Dodgers don't even have a starter lined up. "Undecided' vs Logan Gilbert. They're popping champagne tonight and probably will be hung over tomorrow. Almost a guaranteed Mariners W.
All 3 teams should be ashamed of themselves, but the Astros in particular. Sprint to the finish my ass, a slow crawl at best.
This is about the time of year where a frontrunner usually emerges to take control of their fate. This year, its as though nobody wants it. Not just Houston, Seattle and Southern Oklahoma, but the Blue Jays as well. Even Baltimore hasnt looked that good lately. Tampa Bay looks to me the only team in the AL putting it together at the right time. All that said, I do think teams are trying to win. Its just that the results are baffling.
Every team has flaws and can be beaten any given night depending on the matchup. Will highlight even further how small sample size baseball can magnify/skew things when one of these teams (don't know who) gets hot in the playoffs and becomes world-beaters over 2 weeks.
Slow crawl? More of tumbling like an idiot and hoping to get lucky to roll past the finish line. Dusty in the background clapping his gloved hands and chewing his toothpick telling them to roll the opposite direction.
Magic number down to 11 to clinch the division with 25 games to go (12 for Astros, 13 for Mariners or Rangers) Magic number to clinch a playoff spot is the same, as Seattle is first team outside looking in.
