Even if the Astros lose tomorrow to Seattle, they still control their destiny. Doesn't make sense.

For the final wildcard, yes. For the division title, no.

And hence, why getting the bye was very important, and why going 2-7 against the As and Royals was a dog s*** thing for them to do.

Astros can clinch a playoff spot as soon as tomorrow night if they sweep Seattle and Texas loses the next two games. If that were to occur Seattle has no path to surpass the Astros. The only way Seattle could tie Houston would be to sweep the Rangers while the Astros get swept in Arizona. The resulting standings would be Texas, Seattle and Houston all end up with identical 88-74 records. Houston wins the three way tie with 14 wins, to Seattle’s 13, to Texas’ 12 wins in the three way tiebreaker.

So as crazy as it sounds the Astros could clinch at least a WC spot as soon as tomorrow.

not true. There's no scenario where a wc spot is clinched tomorrow for the stros.

Seattle holds the tiebreaker over Hou. In the case of the stros winning the next two, Hou needs to win a game vs Arizona to actually clinch a playoff spot. It doesn't matter if texas loses the next two games

The 4 Scenarios to clinch a playoff spot before last nights game:

    1. Sweep Seattle and win 1 vs Arizona.
    2. Win two in Seattle and win two in Arizona. Seattle loses 1 vs TEX
    3. Win 1 in Seattle, sweep Arizona. SEA loses 2 vs TEX
    4. Lose all SEA games, sweep Arizona. Pray Seattle loses 3 times to TEX (they won last night so throw this scenario out)

Damn that is a lot more dire than I thought, Astros really put themselves in a bind getting rolled by KC.

It’s absolutely true. Read it again. If the Astros and Angels win the next two the Astros are in because Seattle would have to sweep Texas to tie the Astros while the Astros would have to get swept in Arizona, resulting in a three way tie in the AL West, which the Astros would win in that case due to more wins vs Seattle and Texas.

Ok, whatever you say. But yes, there is a scenario where they can clinch a playoff spot tomorrow.

There isn’t. The scenarios were literally laid out for you. Games played after this series is over tomorrow still matter no matter what happens

Bro, I explained it completely how and why they clinch in the event they and the Angels both win the next two. I could not have been more clear. There is no scenario where Seattle gets in over the Astros in that event. They can’t win a three way tie with the Astros if the Astros sweep them. They can’t create anything more than a three way tie if they get swept by the Astros. It’s CLEAR. My God.

Games absolutely still matter after tomorrow. You’re trying to pass on an assumption that games don’t matter this weekend. And that’s clearly wrong when the stros still need to win

All I was trying to do was say there is a possibility they can clinch tomorrow and you keep saying I’m wrong, even though I’m not. Simple as that. Explain to me how the Astros don’t make the playoffs if the Astros and Angels both win tonight and tomorrow night. I’ll be waiting.
