I experienced the same thing, I had an event happen a few months before covid started that caused severe depression, to the point that I became physically inactive, then covid hits, and I end up being inactive for 2 years straight. During this time I gain over 25% of my body weight in a year, I worked off half of it the following 6 months (from diet alone) and then regained it all from binge eating in a few months.

At that point, I had palpitations, a very high heart rate, bad incidents of vertigo, and shortness of breath, and felt like I was dying. Saw a cardiologist, had tests, wore a monitor, luckily all the Dr saw was an elevated heart rate and the recommendation was simply to exercise. It's been a year since then, I started slowly with hikes/walks, and really picked things up over the last 6 months from hooping and running.

I've just now finally lost all the weight, even got my mile time to the fasted I've ever run, and thankfully haven't experienced any of the health problems in a good number of months now. Good luck man

Dr. Berggggggg says that Maltodextrin is in a lot of processed food and is really bad on the glycemic index scale (worse than sugar, bread, corn, etc). I used a pot roast seasoning the other day and there it was on the label. Oops. Made the pot roast taste good, though, along with the resulting gravy.

I've read a number of times that the Hardens have the best cushion support and soles for outdoor.

Interesting thing I learned recently about those curved curling bars when doing bicep curls. My old habits I used part of the curling bar that had the angle of my grip/thumb point up and out at 45 degrees. It just felt comfortable on the wrists. But, if you actually use the part of the curling bar and angle where your grip/thumb point down and out at 45 degrees, then this hugely emphasizes the bicep muscle while forcing your elbows down to your sides. This, versus just doing it the other way or a straight curl...not all emphasis is on the bicep but also the other muscle behind (or adjacent to) the bicep (it's not the tricep). It feels a little tight and the wrists don't feel as comfortable. But, man...it kicks the shiyat out of the bicep muscle to do it that way. I never even thought of this until I watched a ripped YouTuber doing it. Also, to not go all the way up on the curl because you tend to use your momentum. Just go up to an angle just above level and not all the way up. I just did 3 sets of it and it kicked my arse! Honestly, I never even realized there was another muscle around the bicep. I always thought it was just the biceps and triceps. Doh!

I'm a little confused. You hold the bar in such a way that your thumbs point down to the ground? That seems like it would force your elbows out.

EDIT: Or, duh, you rotate your wrists outward. That makes sense and would definitely force your elbows in!

Sorry for being so dense. I'll try it. Thanks!

Not down...but at an angle facing down. If you hold your wrists out in front of you palms up and then twist a little outward where your thumbs are pointing down at an angle. That's the part of the angled bar I'm talking about. Watch the beginning of this video below around the 1 minute mark. It shows the easy way a lot of people do it. And, he shows the best way to do it. It's not easy to explain without seeing it.

The other thing I found out I was doing wrong was push-ups. Everyone tends to do push-ups with their elbows out to the sides perpendicular to the body. That's an injury prone way that puts more pressure on the upper shoulders and less emphasis on the pectorals. If you bring your elbows down to about a 45 degree angle, then you're emphasizing more of the chest and your motion is not straight up and down. You go down and up at a slight angle. It's also best to not rush it but try for a 2.5 - 3 second push-up. Else, you are wasting muscle building opportunity by going too fast. It's good stuff. It's easy to do it wrong if you're not paying attention.

I got you. The video was very helpful too though.

I'm looking forward to trying it. I don't think my biceps have been really sore or had a really good workout in a long time.

I have four varieties of triceps exercises I do already that just focus on the triceps. Today, I did a triceps push-down that practically had me crying at the end the pain was so awful.

I’m 40 hours into at least a 72 hour fast. Drinking lots of water and electrolytes. Adding salt as the electrolytes only has a little. Also, mixing in a little Apple Cider Vinegar and lemon juice. Got some Vitamin B complex on the way as it is recommended during fasting. I've never gone so long without eating before. It's an interesting experience. It's supposed to be really beneficial. I'm keeping my exercise level the same. Or, trying to. I may try to stay in ketosis after but it will probably be brief. Plan on breaking the fast with some steamed eggs and grass fed beef in a limited amount. And, gradually eat more maybe gravitating to some nuts and protein shakes.

Seem to have hurt my upper left shoulder in my last lift, though. Not sure how bad until I try lifting again…which is supposed to be today. Yikes. I guess I may skip the punch exercise and the shoulder press if it really is hurt. Sigh.

Not sure if ketones have really kicked in? Am only kind of hungry at times. Staying hydrated. I think I'm on a keto high. I'm really interested to see how this affects my look when it's over. Going for leaner for sure. I didn't weigh myself nor have I been. So, whatevers.

Going on 60 hours without food. Almost folded last night as I was getting quite paranoid about dying suddenly. Had some feelings of fading light; this is the end; got spooked. I steam cooked two eggs and even peeled them getting ready to eat them. But, then I calmed down and just stuck them in the fridge. Feels eerie going without food for so long. Not even hungry at all. I have walked 13 miles in two days since starting fasting and 5 miles the day before that...along with heavy weight lifting. Didn't lift yesterday b/c of hurt shoulder but it is feeling better. Haven't lifted during fast. Don't feel fatigued at all. Definitely felt like I got a boost from the Vitamin B complex. Only issue I have is I know my Potassium levels are low as my electrolyte mix doesn't have but 6% of daily value per serving. My mix only has 250 mg of Potassium but the body should get around 4700 mg for full value. Contemplating buying new electrolyte mix with 1000 mg of Potassium per serving. Looking for signs of Potassium defiiciency but don't think it's a problem as not having any so far, i.e. no cramping, fatigue, dizziness, etc. . The mind is clear.

Heading out to Kalifornee to look for Internet.

Well hell maybe I'll share here...

In 2017 I was 333lbs and started doing yoga and eating mindfully. A studio where I practiced gave me a scholarship to Yoga teacher training along the way and I ended getting down to 211 and keeping it off until I let covid wreck my good habits and mindful eating. Before Covid I was getting close to being in the best shape of my life, practicing yoga everyday and teaching yoga 5 days a week.

Then I let covid wreck me. I take full responsibility. I'm not responsible for the things that happen to me but I am responsible for the way I react to those things.

I'm also a food addict. Once I start I don't want to stop and the food I enjoy eating isn't good for you. Think meat and potatoes and southern fried foods.

I moved to Ruidoso NM and holed up in my cabin to avoid people and the plague. Like an addict I watched as I slowly ate myself toward death. In late 2021 I decided to start teaching yoga at the local studio and in the end that probably saved me even though I continued my downward spiral until this past march.

On March 17 I turned 54, back up to 320lbs and hating myself. I took a trip to Austin and blew it out. I ate and drank at all my favorite restaurants twice. I celebrated 3 different birthdays and partied like it was 1999. On the drive back I knew I had to make a change and rededicated myself to getting my health back.

I spent a week detoxing and counting calories. On April 1st I started my routine of yoga every damn day and I also took up swimming laps at the local rec center. I'm now 18 days into yoga everyday, swimming everyday and eating mindfully staying under 2K calories a day. I'm down 16lbs and already feeling better.

I intend to be in the best shape of my life by 55 and I have just under 11 more months to get there. Yoga and swimming everyday.

Good luck to all you clutch fans on your own journey to a healthier you.

That's great, man! Keep it up! Good luck! Think of it definitely as lifestyle changes. You don't need to do these things. You have to do these things to be healthier. It's not a question. Exercise and healthy eating have to be part of the equation...especially after 50. Doing nothing equates to muscle wasting away and that leads to becoming bedridden faster later in life. And, a lot of times you never get back out of bed under your own power once you hit that bedridden state when older. It's all downhill from there. I've seen the process play out! Hey we would all like to eat whatever we want all the time. That's not reality. That's letting go! We have to keep ourselves on some kind of leash. Make moves that may extend your life...not shorten it. If you are concerned about muscle degradation at all, then I suggest you talk to your doctor about taking creatine. A protein shake might help as well. It will help you preserve some of that muscle from wasting away and help you get more out of your workouts. It's science.

Yeah. Thanks. I'm working with a coach/mentor and she's helping me shape my eating habits and we'll continue to adjust my routine as I round myself back into shape.

It really was a "get busy living or get busy dying" moment.... and as the outlaw josie wales says... "dying ain't much of a living boy"
