Well. It’s freezing at my house. Pipes wrapped and faucets on drip. I hope it’s enough to keep the vampires away.
Down to around 18-19 degrees in the DFW after a night of freezing rain/sleet/snow. Luckily it looks like we won't get down to the single digits like some had expecting earlier in the week, but should hit down to around 17 degrees tomorrow, too. Praying I've escaped damage. So far, a thermostat in my attic has only gotten down to 33 degrees. During the crazy weather last year this time, that thermometer read around 17 degrees in the attic. I always worry about what's going on up there since I have water pipes running through there and due to the brilliance of early-2000's building, my hot water heater is also located ... in the attic.
Took the trash out, 30 seconds of being in the garage then outside in total, instant pain in my hands, nose feels like an icecube what the ****?
Out of curiosity, are there any good websites that track reports of icy roads, like they do with flooding?
This is an average "blue norther" that we get in Texas just about every year, nothing close to like what happened last year. Nobody should praise the government for preventing blackouts or blame them for the isolated ones (you'll get downed power lines whenever there's ice).
In case anybody's interested, here's the TXDOT site: https://drivetexas.org Fortunately (or unfortunately), 281 looks good so now I get to go feed cattle. Big fun.
10" of snow for us in Ruidoso NM. Was down to zero degrees last night. Happy to work from home although I did have to get out and take my son to work at noon. Streets were plowed but it was still slip sliding away down the hill I live on. Need to invest in chains and my next vehicle will be 4WD.
My dad was from Tularosa (my grandmother from the Mescalero Apache reservation) and we went to the racetrack once. Hope to travel to Ruidoso next winter (would love relocating there).
Most of my pipe leading to the hot water heater is insulated and a lot of the rest of the piping is under a layer of blown insulation but some of it is exposed. I didn't have any problems last year when it got down to -1 or something down here and my attic temp went down to around 17. I just kept everything dripping. And last year we had several consecutive days below freezing temps for a high. This year wasn't that bad, so I wasn't as worried, but still... worried. lol.
