Relax guys. Ted Cruz is still in Texas I think. If we see reports of him leaving the state then its time to panic.
It's a dual-fuel generator that uses gasoline or propane. I have purchased a 3rd-party natural gas conversion kit for it, but haven't installed it yet (I need to get my gas meter upgraded and have a connector installed on it). I figure.... if the power goes out, my two cars have about 35 gallons of gas I can use (i have a syphon I can use to get the gas out of the cars)... and I have two cans of propane.
If they didn't tell you, make sure you run it for a bit every week. In Florida, my generator runs for 12 minutes every Wednesday (not sure why 12 minutes is the magic number). When we first moved in, I wasn't doing that and the battery died.
It's a portable generator and i have a battery charger. Charged it up last night. I don't think we're gonna lose power, but I'd feel like crap if we did and I didn't have my generator ready to go. (of course, I could always pull-start it)
The evacuate Katy joke got started in Eric Berger's Houston Chronicle science and weather blog. He now has the popular local Space City Weather page. When his app came out last year he added an Evacuate Katy option on notifications. If you click it a few times a GIF appears.
It's just a testament to me to the power of the meme. It transcends space and time. We are all Katy-ites.
No, and we've been careful the 25+ years we've lived here to keep them away from the house as best we can. Heck, they were trimmed the year before last. We have 15 live oaks, though, and like they will, several lean this way and that. I'm just concerned about the trees. I am every time here's a lot of ice on them and there's a lot right now.
I think it's because we all know someone ridiculous like that in real life. I've known people that lived in Austin who legitimately went out to buy "supplies" for some random hurricane in the gulf.
