Solomon’s stock is down from the beginning of the year but he has some value. 6 months ago there was a case to be made that he had a MoR SP future and was one of Houston’s top 10 prospects; it’s hard to say how far his stock has fallen but he’s still one of Houston’s 30 best prospects. Blanco is a pretty standard older relief prospect with premium velocity and a narrow ceiling/floor where he could be an up and down arm or a setup man; those kinds of prospects have value. Chafin is a rental veteran lefty reliever with an inconsistent track record who is having a really good year in terms of bottom line production. He isn’t making a lot of money so his salary isn’t a hinderance. There aren’t a lot of quality lefties on the market and this is a sellers deadline so it’s hard to say what his value is. But 2 pitching prospects who are near major league ready and can be expected to at least contribute to the big league bullpen for a few seasons seems like a reasonable package.
@Nook is Bell a realistic possibility or is it just us realizing what a good fit he'd be on this team?
I like the idea of trading either Urquidy or Garcia but not until the off season. We are down to 2 1/2 months left in the season and McCullers is still not ready for a rehab assignment. Until he can rejoin the staff, they need all the pitchers they have. But this off season I hope they resign JV and trade one of them for a young controllable 1B or LF. 2023 rotation JV Framber McCullers Javier Urquidy or Garcia H.Brown. I fully expect a 6 man rotation to be common for large portions of the seasons from now on. The new player takes over for Yuli or Brantley which reduces the number of rookies on next year's team which projects to possibly having as many as 4 of the 13 position players which is a bunch for a contending team.
I would agree on those 2, but think 2 back end or bullpen type pitching prospects would get a deal done. Blanco is just old for a prospect and Solomon is having a terrible year. Maybe Tameraz and Arrighetti?
I think Bregman is officially out of his funk. ( for enough time to have confidence) OPS. Is highest since May 15th. I would still like to see the team trade for a bench/insurance bat, especially with Brantley hurt which is concerning in this situation and at his age. Yordan needs to be healthy for the playoffs I'm not worried about him. Give him all the time he needs now.
JJ/Jones/Lee/Leon. I’m fine with rolling with all of those guys as job share at 1B and our utility guys (shoot Dubon onto the sun for all I care), but if we do I really want them to get a LF that can pound the ball. that leaves Chaz as trade bait if that’s your bench. Trade Urquidy during the winter. Trade Maton. Trade Odo at the deadline. Keep Siri stashed in AAA bc he’s valuable in the post season and injuries happen. Promote Brown. Promote Bielak for good. Let Montero walk. Let Brantley and Yuli and Castro walk. Extend Tucker and JV and Javier if you can. Framber gets 5/85 to buy out his final 3 years of arb and 2 FA years. 6/150 for Tucker. 3/90 with a vesting option for 1/30 or player option for JV at the end. That should net you something like: 7 top 30 prospects (out- Urquidy, Odo, Chaz, Maton) JV/LMJ/Javier/Framber/garcia/Brown- 82 million: Presley/Stanek/Nerris/Abreu/Bielak/Marrinez/Taylor- 30 million Maldy/Lee/JJ/Jones/Altuve/Pena/Bregman- 66 million Alvarez/15 million LF/meyers/Tucker/Leon - 58 million. 235 million dollar payroll. Extended Tucker, Javier, Framber through ‘28. Extended JV through ‘25 or ‘26. Not a single hole on the team except maybe 1B. Add 10 new players to top 30 between trades and draft/international signings. This team is now on auto pilot until Altuve and Bregman need to get extended or replaced in 2025. You have 3 years where all you have to do is find/ID/develop 1 MOR guy to replace JV. That would be my idea of baseball bliss.
I have heard his name connected to the Astros going back for at least a month. He is a rental at this point and can only DH or play first. Those players typically are not very valuable at the deadline. However there are more teams chasing the playoffs and his bat has been so good that it only takes one or two teams to really big high figuring he can DH for them. I think the Mets are a team that will go after Bell.
Asked and was told the Astros have some interest in a corner outfielder/1st baseman and are open to adding a reliever. Everything will be cost dependent as they feel they can win with what they have. Also they expect teams to try to hold on to their top prospects more than in the past (Not sure I agree with this).
Is there a site where you can see Benintendi stats in MMP? Just from memory he always kills us. He might be the opposite of Trout and add even more value to him even if outfield is not the top priority
Chafin fills the biggest need, imo... I like Cooper, but I'd rather them make a run at Happ. Switch hitter... walks a lot... has more defensive versatility than Cooper.
Scroll to near the bottom and select 'show ballparks'. Nothing too special about his limited appearances at MMP https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.fcgi?id=beninan01&year=Career&t=b
Looking at his splits against the Astros, he's got a 0.653 OPS well below his overall 0.784 OPS. Blue Jays and Mariners are the only teams with a decent sample size (100 PA) who's pitchers don't own him more than the Astros pitchers.
Some things will never change. Somebody will get desperate. Alvarez for Josh Fields Bagwell for Larry Andersen Kazmir for Victor Zambrano
Considering how elite the pitching he has faced at MMP I consider those numbers special, even if they are not above his averages. Thx for the tip
What I meant was that his numbers were nothing special as they relate to him 'always killing' the Astros.
I do not want a lefty unless he is really strong, and really strong vs rhp also. Dusty will use a lhp poorly in the playoffs and we will have a lesser pitcher in a big situation, simply because in the 80's and 90's you always went with a lhp vs a lh hitter
