This and the Astros have options. They have Hunter Brown and Brandon Bielak. The Astros also traded for another likely middle of the rotation starter yesterday.... and have taken a lot of college arms recently. The Astros will have MLB capable starters, they just will lack a hammer if they lose Verlander.
I didn't say they had a bad farm system, they have a good farm system.... I said they have had an overrated farm system IMO when it comes to actual production. A lot of their prospects have not panned out, especially on the pitching end.
The Padres are running a glorified pump and dump organization with their prospects. All of their MLB production is from externally acquired players, lets see how long this lasts.
So where the standings are right now the Padres have to go to Atlanta for a 3 game Wild Card series. I would find it fairly amusing if the Padres are out in 2 games when Max Fried and Kyle Wright/Uncle Charlie spank them.
This isn't the first time their GM has done this..... remember the Myers and Shields deals (etc) they made and tried to compete. That went South really fast, and their GM quickly tried to trade his assets for young talent. Their GM is also the same one that got in trouble lying about medical reports. He clearly knows how to develop a minor league system and get ownership to spend money. I just think they would be better holding on to their prospects and getting a big free agent every once in awhile. Just look at the amount of assets they have spent on their pitching staff. What they are doing is unsustainable.... they have like three quarters of a billion dollars in two players and if they keep Soto the total commitment will be what franchises were going for not long ago. Crane bought the Astros for less that the contracts of Tatis and Machado.
I think the Braves are better than them. I would say there is like a 60-66% chance the Braves take 2 of 3.
I agree. Braves are more well rounded. Acuna, Riley, Olson, Swanson, dArnaud/Contreras, Ozuna and Harris is pretty sporty. Plus, that bullpen smoked us last year and they added McHugh and Jansen.
Dodgers virtually the same... Freeman Turner Betts Muncy Taylor Turner Kimbrel Hudson Graterol Their starting pitching is home grown though... Everyday hitters are just Bellinger, Smith, and Lux really...
Well we haven't turned the ball over and we are in field goal range.... third and 3 from the 30. We should at least get some points out of this possession.
That's still a lot of MLB production from the farm though. It's aggravating that they have a bottomless pit of financial resources, they could play it our way if they had to and be good, but they don't have to.
