2022 Texans Coaching Search

Gotta say I like what I hear from Mayo. Was never a Josh McD fan and Flores is relatively unknown to me besides his record in MIA.

Feel we missed out on Vrabel, but Mayo seems to have the requisite leadership skills and I would much rather go for an up and comer versus an old retread.

Good on video is one thing. Good against actual living football players is another thing entirely.

That's my concern as well. It could be a gamble that works, but feels like you are really going to need to put the right coordinators around him.

 

The longer we wait the more likely I think it's McDaniels.

If it was Mayo or Flores I feel like it would be announced by now.

Caserio today said they would do a thorough search, so they at least have to wait a bit and pretend for a bit. You can't say this morning that you're doing a thorough legitimate search and then 6 hours later, announce a hire. I guess if you're the Texans, you could!

There's also a bunch of other teams looking, so any coach in demand is probably going to interview for multiple jobs so they might take their time to accept.

Don’t underestimate Easterby’s role in the Texans’ shenanigans. His fingerprints are all over the Culley firing and the search for his replacement. It’s well-known around NRG Stadium how much Easterby loves Mayo and believes he should be a head coach. And if Easterby loves Mayo, you know Caserio does, too.

Caserio said the Texans would cast a wide net to find a replacement for Culley. An assistant with only three years on a staff would be easier to control.

What was unsaid, of course, is the new coach better agree with the assistant coaches Caserio recommends. He has to be onboard with Mills entering his second training camp as the starter. He must not have an issue with Caserio playing the role of assistant coach in practice. And the new coach should appreciate having Caserio on a headset to communicate with him during games as he’s done with the Texans and Patriots and will continue to do.

The new coach must have a philosophy that meshes with Caserio.

Offensively, Caserio wants to build a consistently productive running game that takes pressure off an intelligent, efficient quarterback who doesn’t throw a lot of interceptions. He wants a tough, smart and dependable defense that’s built around stopping the run and pressuring the quarterback from every angle.

That’s the Patriot Way.
