I'm not for hiring McCown as HC. Although he's from a coaching family in Jacsonville Tx. and played the QB position in the NFL for 20 yrs. There's a reason teams like the Eagles paid him and put him on the roster while he was sitting at home evaluating offenses and QB play for those teams. All while helping coach a high school team with his brother.

I'm for them hiring someone exciting that isn't a failed positional coach. If that's a young guy that they think is an up and comer with little coaching experience, so be it.

We're going nowhere for the next 3 years or so. Now is the time to hire someone with lesser experience and let them learn on the job. If you do that, though, it better be someone that is young, that has a reason as to why they aren't yet a coordinator or high level coach - like, they just got done with a career in the league or something.

Nope. If McCown is hired as head coach I’m out. It will show me that Easterby is calling the shots or Caserio blew two straight head coaching hires just so he can have more control of what goes on on the field. I’ve stuck by this team through everything from day one. Can’t do that any longer if they continue down this path.

Am I hopeful they get it right? Yes. As of right now they have not earned my trust. If anyone can say Cal and company has earned their trust you’re most likely lying.

He should get experience first as an Offensive coordinator, and QB coach on other NFL teams before getting hired as Head Coach.

He won't be considered. While other teams scour the entire league for potential talent, the Texans only look at ex-Patriots.

They're thinking asymmetrically than the rest of the league. Where as every other team is like “Let’s bring in the top coordinators and former top coaches”, the Texans want to bring in a culture builder. That can come from any walk of life and with any resume.

Hines Ward interviewed Saturday and people are like “Hines Ward?!” Hines Ward was an assistant with the Jets for just a little bit, was with Willie Taggart/FAU this year but Hines Ward knows what the Steelers organization is all about. Culture builder.

Another name I’ve heard is Josh McCown, currently a HS coach, coaching his son in HS.

This model is the Steve Nash/Steve Kerr model. We’ll find great coordinators, great position coaches. Who will bethe CEO of this coaching staff? Doesn’t necessarily have to be the best guy with Xs and Os. Gotta be someone the players respond to. The Texans organization know they’re not winning tomorrow, they’re probably not winning next year. They want to build a culture.

I know people roll their eyes in the NFL at these things but Hines Ward? We’ve interviewed a lot worse coaching candidates over the years. Why not bring him in and pick his brain?

Isn’t this what they just tried with Culley?

Why not just make Jack Easterby the head coach? Isn't his whole job to be build culture? (deception, vengeance, backstabbing, etc)

Why haven’t they interviewed Mayo yet?

He’s exactly what they’re looking for. A young, inexperienced coach that they can control and will do whatever Caserio and Easterby tell him to do, just like Culley.

This one definitely intrigues me. Wunderkind type who could be the next McVay or Taylor. He isn’t from the Patriots tree and is clearly in high demand considering he has received 3 interview requests.
