Gurriel in 2021 regular season and 2022 post season had a BB:SO ratio of close to 1:1. But that was an anomaly for his career. Brantley has a career BB:SO ratio of 483: 656 or about 2:3. As hitters, Brantley is better. As a defender, Yuli has dig skill, but his range is getting smaller and smaller. His dWAR was only -1.1.

My preference is to bring back Brantley IF healthy and convert Yuli to a player/coach or liaison role with the front office.

The only FA signing I expect is Abreu. Others are possible, but I think Abreu would be the best fit.

If JV and the above were done:

    R 2B Altuve
    R SS Pena
    L LF Alvarez
    R 3B Bregman
    L RF Tucker
    R 1B Abreu
    L DH Brantley
    R CF McCormick
    R C Malonado

    Bench
    IF Hensley
    C Lee
    OF Leon
    C/IF Diaz

Yeah! JV and Brantley would be FAs along with Abreu.

2023 position players as the roster sits now:

    Altuve 2B
    Pena SS
    Alvarez DH
    Bregman 3B
    Tucker RF
    Abreu 1B
    McCormick LF
    Meyers CF
    Maldonado C

    K.Lee backup C
    Hensley backup 2B, 3B, 1B
    Dubon backup SS, CF
    Matijevic DH, 1B

J.J. beats out Y.Diaz because he hits left handed.

Better sign a LH hitting outfielder. Gotta have three in the lineup the bulk of the season. And not create a disaster with Contreras in LF for way less money I’d rather have Benentendi, Brantley, Conforto. Re-sign Vasquez for under 10 mil/per of you don’t trust Lee or Diaz (who are fine options in my opinion).

Acquiring Contreras as an expiring contract on last years team fit way more than paying him 4/84 this season and be an average LF/DH type who catches 40 times.
