Mills showed promise last season, and the Texans need to go best player available. However, if they do go QB, Matt Corral is gifted.
No guarantee we get a high enough pick to get one of the top QBs (Stroud, Young, Richardson) next year. Willis has by far the most upside of any of the QBs this year and on top of it is a a high character player. This team needs high upside and high character. Or stay in mediocrity (Mills) which is the Texan way...
This is the perfect year to trade back. They don't need to take a QB this year, and after the unimpressive return they got for Watson, they should try to turn that #3 into two starters.
He weighs 219 lbs. And has a cannon of an arm. Plus the most athletic QB in the draft. From the combine: NFL Combine results 2022: Quarterback workouts Malik Willis, Liberty (6-0, 219 pounds, 9 1/2-inch hands) Willis didn't run because he didn't need to prove to anyone he's a dynamic athlete; his college tape speaks for itself. He did throw, and, boy, did he throw. Willis put on aerial display at Lucas Oil Stadium, ripping off elite deep balls out of a relaxed delivery. It was his first of many NFL highlight reels, with the dazzle he provided while connecting with some of the top wide receivers in the class. Teams are starting to forget about Willis' lack of ideal height and looking at his makeup and limitless potential. Not only did he interview well and impress evaluators with his knowledge of varied offensive schemes, reports say his intangibles may have stood out more than his arm, capped by the viral video of Willis participating in an unbelievable act of kindness by giving what he could to a man in need while walking down the street in Indianapolis. No QB will be going No. 1 overall in this draft because the Jaguars have Trevor Lawrence. Sporting News had Willis going No. 11 to the Commanders in the latest 2022 mock draft. Willis should now get a lot more top-10 consideration from the Texans (No. 3), Giants (Nos. 5 and 7), Panthers (No. 6) and Broncos (No. 9).
219 is below average weight and 6’ is well below average height. His arm strength is great. Corral is in the same class and is taller. Willis isn’t the most athletic in this draft. He won’t run a 4.4 like Ridder did. Corral and Willis are similar athletes, and Pickett is right behind them. Willis is Jalen Hurts 2.0. The only QB in this draft that might be a good QB from day one is Pickett. Corral and Willis are upside picks Willis is horribly inaccurate and played against weak competition. Corral is everything Willis is and did it against the SEC.
I don’t think any QB in this draft is noticeably better than Mills. Pickett is also going to be 24 this season. All the QBs are older. If he was 21 then maybe. But we have way too many slots to fill before we take a bunch of chances on non sure fire prospects. Mills earned a chance to see what he’s got. Size, arm, mobility is all there. Add in the pedigree and it’s worth a gamble.
You’re kidding, right? The Baltimore Ravens were consistent post season contenders with one of the most stout defenses that included a HOF safety. Not to mention they won a SB with Trent Dilfer.
8.5. Teddy Bridgewater's hands were bigger and he was questioned. My hands are even bigger. Heck, my younger daughter's hands are just slightly smaller than Pickett's.
Willis is 2 inches taller and 12 pounds heavier than Kyler Murray. He seems to have worked out in the NFL. Willis will be big enough in the NFL. And accuracy? Seems I remember Josh Allen was criticized for accuracy. He seemed to work out OK too. I guess we will have to wait until the NFL draft to see what draft capital the real NFL experts apply to the potential NFL QBs being drafted. I am hearing a number of teams are looking at Willis with their first round picks. Including those listed in the PFF article above (DET, CAR, SEA, PIT).
Vick had 8.5 inch hands. Pickett has a thumb issue where it won’t extend. He doesn’t have small hands, just a weird thumb
