Who is asking for this in-season tournament? It seems like it’s something that Adam Silver wants for some reason, and now he’s trying to force it through and push it onto the masses. the play-in has been a success…we got the Pelicans in the playoffs because of it, and they were a joy to watch the Pelicans home crowd was amazing, and Alvarado made a name for himself This tournament tho? Idk
Theyre trying to appeal to intl fans by copying soccer and also trying to undercut March Madness. The people who makes these decisions are JDs and MBAs who don't actually watch basketball.
I'd be down for the tournament if they can use it as an excuse properly restructure the league to be fairly balanced. Get rid of conferences, get rid of divisions, every teams plays each other twice (one home one away), playoffs are 1-16, season is only 66 games. League makes up the lost revenue from the shrunken season length with the play in and tournament. The question I have about the tournament is what makes it different from the playoffs? Soccer teams have tournaments, but they are unique in one being domestic clubs, one being international clubs, and one being national teams. The league should find a way to make it different. An idea off the top of my head, break the league into 6 clubs, players are selected to represent a geographic location based on their birth/home state (north, south, west, east, central, international) players are selected by votes like an all-star game, call the tournament king of the hill, MVP of the tourney is called the king of (north, south, world for international etc). Maybe that's corny, but it should be something creative, it would make more sense than a playoff replica just being done in a single game format.
That would be fun to watch, how do you keep the players motivated to try and participate? I definitely think we should get rid of divisions and conferences and do 58 games (idk where you got 66 from). You'd make up for increased rest/travel during the playoffs by starting them earlier and you'd probably have less injuries. Also less games where teams bench their starters because it doesn't impact seeding. The owners will never do it though because of decreased revenue from TV and ticket sales.
Yeah it's 58 I got 66 in my head from the 2011-12 lockout lol. If we add 2 teams like has been rumored it becomes 62 games. That would be 20 games shorter, but that's where the play-in & mid-season tournament steps in. The motivation for a home region-based tournament would be representing their part of the country, but it could have cash prizes too.
Ooh interesting. It be cool to also do it by college. Cash prizes could work, but probably not for the bigger name stars. Now...throw in some rewards for teams and it gets interesting...although it becomes a bit amateurish and unfair. I'm sure management wouldn't like it either risking injury. I've heard an idea before where they'd have a tournament to play for the first pick...but that's a whole separate issue where teams could start missing the playoffs on purpose to be the best team in the first pick tournament. I have a lot of free time to daydream/brainstorm and love creative stuff like this lol. I'll chew on this and reply later with my own proposal.
Really good team-friendly deal. Not sure if Wall had his heart set on LAC, but I bet contending teams that needed a PG are kicking themselves right now, for not offering Wall a contract like this.
What other contending teams are able to offer him a starting gig? Or at least offer to compete for the starting PG spot? Can't think of any. Maybe the Mavs? They weren't even willing to offer Dragic a full time reserve spot so who knows what's up with them. I'm pretty sure Wall had his sights set on the Clippers for that reason alone. I know the Clippers have been interested for awhile.
Where did they find take foul data for all players? I think the big debate here will be whether or not a guy made a play on the ball. I think it should be fine to wrap up Giannis on his way to the basket with the ball but not to grab Middleton's jersey as he's headed to the corner on that same break.
NBA really needs to find some sort of way to speed up the end of games…last 3 minutes can take 30 minutes to finish it’s ridiculous and sucks away all the energy and hype for the moment
I think Wall could help the Celtics, Mavs and Raptors. And if the Heat soured on Lowry (who was pretty bad this past postseason), they could find some way to make it work. I don't think Marcus Smart should be the de facto PG, the Mavs need a starter after Brunson left and I think a FVV/Wall backcourt can coexist, with Trent Jr. coming off the bench as a 6th man. I'm not sure if the Mavs and Raptors really fit the "contender" status, but they're the most competitive teams who also have a need at PG.
