Brogdon is a skilled player but he can't stay healthy. Hopefully, the Celtics can manage his minutes well and get the most out of him.
Yea on the surface it’s a fantastic trade because the only real cost was the 1st rounder. The risk is whether or not Brogdon can stay healthy….or at least be healthy come playoff time.
I miss caring about the free agency frenzy and always feeling like we were one player away from the championship.
Here me out... I may be ok with Kyrie... IF the price is something like the Milwaukee #1, the 2024 brooklyn pick w/ protections, and salary filler... 1) The Milwaukee pick will likely have limited value unless Giannis misses the season 2) The main value for the Nets is the 2024 pick in case they need to tank. The assets they get for Durant and having Simmons could mean a borderline playoff team in the east; so it may not be a high pick... perhaps put a top 4 protection on it... 3) Kyrie is on a one year expiring deal so he could get the John Wall treatment if he becomes a bad influence. Ultimately he's a gamble on a point guard with a career 39.3 3pt% and 57.7 career ts%. Worst case scenario he walks away in a year and we're out a couple of picks we don't necessarily need given half our roster are first rounders from the past 2 years. Best case, he straightens himself out and becomes a consistent player again. We can then use cap space on him or renounce to free up his cap hold and sign someone else... I wouldn't entertain it but the cost seems pretty low right now where i think he could warrant the risk. We may also be able to flip him to the Lakers at the deadline for Westbrook expiring and a future pick to replace one lost... Just not seeing a huge downside even if he misbehaves...
If all we needed was some offense at the PG position in order to seriously contend for the title this year, then yeah, sure. But we're developing young players and are years away from being serious contenders. Kyrie wouldn't fit. Plus, you really want someone with Kyrie's mentals in our locker room? With KPJr and other impressionable young players? Hard pass. On every single level.
