I am really pleased with what I've seen from this kid. The first big challenge is learning to be a role player when last year the entire Auburn offense revolved around him and he had the green light. I don't think he should have a green light yet, but I too miss those walk up 3s he used to shoot with such confidence. He's not going to be the #1 or #2 option here, but once he develops into a man physically, he's going to be a great modern Bosh-like big for us who can guard 1-5.
I think one thing that gets underappreciated is the benefit of playing with a superstar. Horry was great but playing with Hakeem really helped his development especially in his early career years. Yes that game in the Finals is super impressive but could he have done that playing with no superstars? Conversely, opposite of being helped by playing with a superstar, could he (or anyone) have been negatively impacted if he played with not so great players (like the rockets roster right now)? This is why bringing back Harden (if he wants to) an absolute no brainer. It's not to win a championship now but it's to take some pressure off of our young promising 19/20 YEAR OLD guys (as defense focuses on Harden) and let them develop a bit more naturally. Is Harden at Lebron level? No. Is he at Giannis level? No, but is he a legitimate superstar that could make other players (especially young players) better? No doubt
Jabari and Brandon Ingram had nearly identical numbers as a college freshman Ingram 17/7/2 on 44/41/68 (55% TS) Jabari.. 17/7/2 on 43/42/80 (57% TS) Both were drafted onto young tanking teams. Ingram also had a rough rookie season. Ingram 9ppg on 40/29/62 (47% TS) Jabari 12ppg on 39/30/79 (50% TS) And then Ingram took a big leap his second season 16ppg on 47/39/68 (53% TS)
Not worried. Once he gets comfortable, fills out and has a better system/coach, he's going to be just fine. I see Aldridge with a 3 and D. He's got a ways to go on his handling and footwork, but the stroke is there. LA's midrange was legit. That's my forecast. I get the Horry comps but he was much more athletic than Bari. Either way, not worried. By his 3rd year he's gonna be nice.
That comparison is almost as good as this one: https://stathead.com/basketball/pcm...rfrom=2010&player_id2=bryanko01&p2yrfrom=1997
Thanks. And just out of curiosity, I tried to find some Horry videos from his Alabama university days on YouTube. All I could find was this scratchy VHS video of the final quarter of a game between Kentucky and Alabama in 1991. The quality is bad and the end gets erased over by a documentary about Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" LOL. Anyways, Horry is wearing No. 25 and would have been 20 years old at the time. So, about a year older than Jabari Smith right now, I think. He did make a few good passes but was pretty much a non-factor on offense. Camped out in the post, mostly. Though he ends up with 11 points, I don't think he took a single shot in the quarter. And he seemed to be in the game more for his defense, where he was pretty active. Anyways, he looks more like Usman Garuba at this point, no offense to Garuba. But without the 3-point threat. Probably few would have imagined this guy would end up developing into "Big Shot Bob."
We'll be laughing about it in the future. He's going to have a great 3pt shot and range well outside the 3pt line. Physically he wasn't prepared for the NBA when he showed up and he has that in common with Green. Strength alone would cause such a massive improvement for these two. I wonder why this is such a common draft problem, it's the most obvious thing you can do before getting into the NBA and it's easier to do it the younger you are. Someone can make a killing solving this problem.
Didn’t realize Ingram’s free-throw shooting was so bad early on. That’s one thing Jabari has going for him, and hopefully it signifies his shot is going to be wet in the near future. I believe in his work ethic
I believe he will find his 3 pt stroke again within the next couple of years. TBH I am more concerned about his attitude. The way he acts now is concerning especially when he basically sucks. Will it get worse when he gets better? Hopefully he will learn to humble himself a little bit as he matures.
looking at ingram's stats i am confused how his ts% is higher in 2020 than this year 2023. His Fg%, 3pt% and Ft% are all higher this season than in 2020. How ??
The magic of 3pt shooting. He shot 6.2 3PA in 2020, compared to 3.9 3PA this season. I am not sure why he reduced his 3p attempts since last season.
I figured it was because of that. It’s wild though. It’s why the warriors had so many years of excellence.
Hey, that´s 2 of us, we have to be remain here for a while. Kid has shown the right attitude, anyone can have a stretch like that, and you know what, others have hid for seasons like that kid Fultz from the Tatum draft. This kid, still logging his minutes with the right attitude, still shooting the ball, we have to keep supporting him. Having said that, I'm also expecting a lot from him tonight, aggression and defense when we have to switch.
