I remember last year when a certain rookie had a great game to start followed by a stretch of horrid games for a bit and people wanted him relegated to the G League.
It's his shooting that's most concerning, he is supposed to be pure, not a guy whose streaky. Something about his demeanor is off as well.
Yeah I noticed that he does not move much when spotting up he is going to have to learn to find the open spots and make himself vailable. THIS!
The shooting should come around eventually, nobody at that height shoots 90% from the FT line as a rookie if they suck at shooting. I was the least hyped for him compared to the other top two guys, and sadly the fears of him sucking around the rim have stuck. Defense should come around, but he might peak as a Marvin Williams type with better shooting.
Obviously way too early to give up on him, but I was hoping he'd be at minimum a knock down shooter his rookie year and hopefully develop other parts of his game in subsequent years. He just doesn't look comfortable out there and Silas isn't doing him any favors either with how uninvolved he is in the offense. If he gets going it'll have to be on his own. When he came in I figured his ceiling was a Lamarcus Aldridge type player with 3 point range and better defense. Keep in mind Lamarcus only averaged 9 ppg his rookie year. So there is still hope lol.
Wut??? Uh no. David was a MONSTER! We all make fun of David because of the way Dream kicked his butt, but the truth is David is an ALL- TIME great. Jabari ain’t close.
As I have said...I am willing to be patient with him. I am sure he will develop into a rotation player. But as a Top 3 pick? He is showing all the usual signs of being a definite bust. Has not given any positive flashes that most rookies do to show they will develop into a Top 50-ish player.
No, I was talking about the poster who kept comparing his actual skills to Robinson. Lucas was talking about his demeanor.
I have been asking these same questions before the draft, and I am even more worried, but I am not saying he is already a bust. But you are right to wonder if will ever be anything more than role player taken in the top 3.
John Lucas. I understand its coachspeak and we live in a "comparison era", but it definitely made me perk up and yet so many guys thought it was a "me" issue here! I guess! https://rocketswire.usatoday.com/20...ckets-rookie-tari-eason-better-dennis-rodman/
I agree with others that he just needs to make his open shots at this point. even if a play is not ran for you but you find yourself open, drain that thing. he is only 19 and has shown flashes here and there. still very early to make any assumptions. don't like the rim blocking him and wish he could dunk instead but if he showed that ability consistently in college maybe he would have went #1. thing is, I think he can do it now but he is playing with low confidence right now and the public spat with Jalen didnt help. hopefully Jalen has taken the rook to the side already and the team as a whole accepts him because there's no denying Jabari's demeanor looks off. I think one good shooting game from him will change that though. he has time. plus I think he has been good defensively (needs to be better at rebounding which will happen if he keeps hitting the gym)
Luckily...all he has to do is develop into a quality 3 point shooter and defender. Not sure he'll ever be elite at those, but if he just becomes quality, that will make him a valuable role player, which is a disappointing return for a Top 3 pick, but fine at the end of the day.
I was at the game last night and Jabari just looked out of it - lost and stoic. He's trying but he looks outmatched out there. Just really outmatched. On defense he seems outsized and slow to adjust. One offense he seems very one dimension - a jump shot that relies on being assisted That said, he's still super young and we all know that jump shot is really good. The Rockets would be wise to get him to drive more and mess up. I'd rather seem him miss from 3-5 ft then from 20 at this stage of his career. Make him aggressive and let him screw up that way, but screwing up from passivity is painful to watch. He's struggling. For sure. But it would be foolish for people to give up this early. Still yes, it's not a pretty start.
The demeanor thing. I get what you’re saying, and it almost feels like maybe he hasn’t meshed with everyone yet. Like the trust isn’t there. Tari Eason clearly has it, but I don’t know, it feels like maybe Jabari doesn’t. The bench incident with Jalen Green probably didn’t help. I’m hoping like everything else that will come with time. The word “bust” right now is ridiculous.
