I'd like one Republican to tell me how this makes sense to them.

Poll shows DeSantis lost debate by huge margin after refusing to say he’ll serve full term if reelected

Local NBC affiliate WFLA’s online poll got over 65,000 responses to the question, “Who do you think won Florida’s gubernatorial debate?”

By a huge margin, viewers Monday night said Charlie Crist won, 63% to 37%.

“DeSantis never directly answered whether he would serve the entirety of a second term as governor were he to be re-elected,” CBS News adds. “A rising star in the Republican Party, polling has consistently found that DeSantis poses the greatest political threat to former President Donald Trump in 2024, if they both were to jump into the race.”

Oz was about to hit a home run until that abortion answer. That answer is going to be on every ad for the next two weeks. Oz still won the debate but that answer was absolutely stupid.

Edit - here's the clip. If I were Oz's campaign manager, I'd be losing my mind at this stupid soundbite. He's winning the debate but he might've produced the viral clip that offsets all of the gains from this debate.

This isn't about my views. This is about how that statement can be spun. Saying that politicians have a role in abortions means that Democrats can make this into a boogeyman statement and just say that Oz is the 51st vote to ban abortion. It doesn't help that multiple red states actually banned abortion so its now its fresh in people's minds that Republican = abortion ban. Oz could've made some generic non-descript answer about how he's personally pro-life and that this is a really hard issue without making a definitive statement on his actual position.

This is just an unnecessary gaffe. Regardless of what you think about it, the Dems now have a soundbite that they'll air continuously and they'll play on people's fears about abortion rights. Part of debates is just not producing the viral clip that creates the narrative. Until that moment, Fetterman really had all the bad soundbites but now Oz created one that fits perfectly into an ad.

I'm not saying Oz lost the debate but I am saying that he made a big unforced error that ruined what was either an excellent night for him. And we'll find out over the next two weeks how impactful that clip is. This is like 2021 when Terry McAuliffe made that soundbite when he said parents had no role in education. He basically lost the election on that clip because Youngkin could insert it into all of his looping ads about CRT and trans kids in schools. Youngkin basically spun the clip into a narrative that sunk McAuliffe.

A truthful and popular answer is a gaffe? Ok, go sell that. I assume Fetterman's unpopular and extreme views on abortion (31% agree with him) you don't think is a gaffe? I doubt anyone could understand his position anyways.

Everyone will be talking fetterman's brain worms and not oz's mainstream view on abortion. If you are a pensyvania dem you ahould be irate at fettermans people for hiding this from you.

Nobody but Republicans care about Hillary.

There should be consequences for all illegal coup attempts. Hillary didn't make one of those. Trump did

I agree that the Jan 6 people were out of line. But it has gotten to the point that if anyone were to question anything about 2020, that they are labeled as preposterous. People on the left can question elections and are applauded.
